TBH I can't really see the point of emotes To me it looks like another pointless addition that nobody asked for & most people won't care for after first few weeks
I think it is an unnecessary feature to try and drive interest again in the mode.
If they want to drive interest back into Battlegrounds, they should either the pricing of items in the Battlegrounds store, decrease the entry fee using tokens, or increase the small energy refill. Not add something that will probably make the game mode more toxic than it was with last season.
The emotes better be marvel popular meme references such as "I can do this all day" etc., also if emotes need to be bought, the currency should be bg coins/currency and should be available in bg store, I won't spend a single unit on emotes, already tired spending units on mastery tweaks now and then as a f2p.
Every game I’ve ever seen with a pvp and emotes; they are almost always used in an unsportsmanlike way. People just can’t help themselves. Even if there are no negative emotes; people will spam them or try to figure out sarcastic insults with them.
Another top game has them, and you’ll commonly see people spam “Good Game” and laugh emote over and over. Or when you make a mistake, they spam “Well Played”. Or when they know they have a stronger deck, they spam “Good Luck” followed by laughing. Or after they win, they spam the cry emote.
I hope this mute feature shows the opponent that emotes are muted (and even further that if one opponent has them muted; neither can use them). Because if it is just a one sided mute; people still attempt to use them in an unsavory way and develop a habit of doing so. This just breeds a growing toxic player base.
Get ready for daily debates and threads about emote usage. It will be the same arguments over and over. The “it’s rude and unsportsmanlike” crowd versus the “trash talking is strategy” crowd. And the “remove emotes” versus the “you can just mute them” crowd. It will forever divide the community; like it has in other games. One such game literally closed down their forum because this was the majority of the discussion.
This, so this. @Kabam Jax can you confirm if this will be a hard mute, in settings?
Having seen this in clash royale and other games, it will devolve to only ones using it, as a psychological approach to gain advantage. I.e. to put off/infuriate your opponent.
In a pvp game where you are trying to win, emotes will end up being solely used for tactical advantage. It's unavoidable.
Most people play this game for enjoyment and many are grown ups, who have moved beyond psychologically bullying your opponent to gain an edge.
A hard switch to turn this off, so that it never has to be experienced, is essential, as otherwise, the above will come to pass.
I don't mind being able to say GG in emote form after a tight match. I just hope there isn't a way for sore losers and bad winners to say "Lol u suck" in emote form.
I'd wish they fixed matchmaking first, cause I feel like something in their code doesn't work. I mean, the last season circus couldn't be kbam malice, right? Right? As for these emotes, if they take even more time in bgs, I just won't bother playing it, one battle already takes too long with all those loading screens
Well emotes 🤔 “Great” idea to present emotes to already frustrated people because of bugs, bad rng etc. That will definetly push more people to rage quit this game.
i hope emotes dont make matches toxic like in popular online games like fortnite/dota etc
This is literally the only point of them. There's no code of chivalry, no come back for someone spamming "well played" when you've just lost 2-0, or spamming crying faces before the match even starts.
Why does someone do that? Well...
Emotes will be purely used as a means of leveraging an emotional response from your opponent, to gain an advantage from their "angry" play becoming sloppy.
They serve no other purpose, where there are zero consequences to using them as a "negative emotional weapon" tactic to win.
"Rules?!? There aren't any rules in a knife fight!!"
So what would be your meaning behind each of these ?
Loki (although the fullness and rugged jawline would be more like Hercules or Hyperion in Loki costume, and not scrawny little Loki himself) - Ha Ha expression.
Hela - Oh my, looks like I’m gonna lose this one.
Black Widow (I’m guessing ? and which one, based on the Green eyes ?) - actually that expression isn’t telling me anything about what that Emote would convey (??)
Phoenix (guessing again, only way to tell is by partial bird design on front of outfit, otherwise her face doesn’t tell me at all who this is) - more of a “wicked” Ha Ha compared to Loki.
This is a bad move Kabam. The announcement is encouraging unsportsmanlike conduct with these emotes. It literally tells players to taunt their opponent.
Yeah, we can mute them. But the people that want to use them in a good manner will have to endure harassment from childish players. How long will they endure? Meaning the vast majority of usage of this feature will be only from people using them intentionally to insult others.
One of the most well known games that made emotes a foundation of the gameplay saw massive community divide on this issue. The game went from at one point taking the top rank in gross revenue to steadily falling over the past few years to well outside the top 200 now. Emotes are still one of the most complained about features.
Can we just agree that one emote will mean "Hey mate this would be my last win to the next rank can you please let me win if it wouldn't mean you loss? Thanks"
