Root mechanic silent nerf!

Reborn01Reborn01 Member Posts: 23
1.5 years since the roots mechanic was added to the game. All players know that the enemies are under the roots, do not use special attacks and use only heavy hits. This was not written anywhere, but the roots worked this way for 1.5 years. After the last update, opponents under the roots began to use sp3. I don't know if this is a fix or another bug. Because Kabam are not talk about it anywhere. Not even a word about it in the patch note update.
But if it's a fix let's call it a nerf. Because the core mechanics of a champion like Baron Zemo is broken.
For 6 months, Baron Zemo was able to block the special attacks of opponents under the roots, but now he cannot. It's definitely a nerf.
If it's not a mistake, Kabam must apologize to the players and give out rank down tickets.

What are you on because i want some. Root works differently everywhere it is used of course it's not going to consistently do the same thing. The root mechanic roots champions in place. Anything else is entirely dependent on champion abilities and nodes. As for the heavy spam that was a known issue that had been addressed

It was obviously a flawed mechanic. If it's not listed in the description that root causes opponent's to only spam heavies, it was always going to get adjusted. Especially if it was a counter to sp3 usage.

Kabam was quite open awhile ago about saying they will fix it, and it was supposed to be in the patch notes for this update, but for whatever reason, it wasn't added to the patch notes. It isn't the first time we have seen a bug with the patch notes this month

Let's play a game....Which of these root mechanics is the same as the other? Which are different?

    Baron Zemo-

    Kraven-

    Sandman-

Now that you've had time to read these abilities, your answer should have been.... none of them are the same. Each are different.

Zemo doesn't say anything about not throwing specials.

Kraven explicitly says throwing a special removes root.

Sandman says Stand your ground removes root.

you don't understand what you write. these abilities that you threw off go in addition to the mechanics of the roots. and the additions of the characters are different, but the basic principle of the roots is the same.

I think the frustration is more this trend of leaving “bugs” in the game for extended periods of time and then “fixing” them with no warning. Players that aren’t tracking every detail of the game get used to how something works for several months and then get frustrated when it suddenly changes out of nowhere. For Mole Man at least they announced it was coming. For the Gambit relic recently, they “fixed” it within a week of noticing it with no announcement. This “fix” wasn’t included in the patch notes but the Cassie Lang rebalance was and that’s not supposed to have happened. Makes it hard to know what’s intended and what’s a new bug.

Mistakes happen but when the communication about these things keeps breaking down it might be worth looking into the process for communicating bugs and fixes. Otherwise I’m pretty sure we’ll just keep getting frustration and these kinds of threads every time it happens.

You're right. That's my bad. But, outside of that, no where does it say anything about not being able to use a SP3. It's also not the same root as Zemo or Kraven. Base mechanic of being locked in place, yes. Different subset of abilities while rooted, also yes.

The whole point of all of this is that none of these root mechanics specifically say SP3's can't be used. Also, not directing this at you, but at OP.

Are we talking about when Zemo roots someone, their power bars go grey ala power lock or something?

Cause I’m on the current update and I used Zemo in arena this morning and my sp2 still greyed out their power bars when I used it.

Here is the OG announcement of Root. Says you can use specials.

You can find many videos about root mechanics, when you use it against opponent. And doesn't matter if you play Baron Zemo, Sandman or Craven. all opponents will react the same way. Spam heavy hits and do not use special attacks.
it's been that way since the craven came into the game

If the root mechanic prevented a defender from gaining power, it would be much better. Unfortunately it doesn't do that and it definitely doesn't special lock them either. Having the AI coded to throw heavies non-stop is not cool because you lose out on some of the root duration.

Something to note is that when these sorts of things happen, a new character will eventually be released that has an ability that bypasses the issue. A good example is the dexterity/buff immunity interaction. Fast forward to Silk being released that has dexterity completely removed.

This was not written anywhere . . . So you assumed something?

Personally, I go with whatever the champ ability or node says re: root, not what I assume. If it does not say root = special lock, then why assume that is true?

Anyway, now you know how it works, so move along, nothing to see here.

It's not. That's the whole point. All root mechanics can be averted by using a special. Any special. It's always been this way. No root ability states neither defenders or attackers can't use any special while rooted. It literally can't be a nerf.

All roots can be removed by a special. But currently when using Zemo on attack, the defenders are special locked for sp1 and sp2. They used to be special locked for all specials but they now specifically fixed only the sp3.
This is right before the sp2 root.

This is right after, note there is no icon for a special lock but the special bar is white and WS can't throw his special

As far as I can tell this is not listed anywhere in Zemo's abilities, but since they just changed it to only work on sp1 and sp2 I am assuming ( I know assumptions are bad) that this is the intended behavior.

And it makes sense to me, being able to infinitely lock something, be it a stun debuff, special lock, or invisibility just to note some that have been changed in the recent past, is relatively bad for the game. But it should be written in his abilities and should have been in the patch notes for sure.
