Special canceling? What?

I've been playing this game for like 2 years and I have never heard of such a thing called "special cancel" but, the last week while I was playing and the defender tried to throw sp1. I didn't notice it and dashed just to see that his special get canceled? He even lost a bar of power and It happened like atleast 3 times since the last week so it's def not my imagination. What is going on? Is this a feature that was always there and I've never noticed it or was it just been added in?

    I don't have a video since it was totally unexpected. But if I remember correctly the second time it happened on LoL starlord. I dashed in and he activated his sp1. In a millisecond margin where he tries to go up in his special (he goes up and kicks for his sp1) I somehow was able to hit him and his special was cancelled and he lost a bar of power.

    If i remember correctly un dooms kit It says doing a strong attack while the opponent is shocked can special cancel (wherever that means) and in some character abillities that they cant special cancel so i guess It is a rare abillity some champions have

    Woah.. but I wasn't doing this though. I think it was herc and dashed in to interrupt it

    I can confirm this has happened multiple times. I had a post about it but it was greatly ignored. I've had it with a quite a few now..

    Domino, Venom, Mysterio, Herc, Storm X, to name a few.

    I unfortunately have not had the pleasure of being able to cancel an sp1 that shouldn’t have been able to be thrown to begin with…but good to see it can happen 👏

    i think ik what your talking about. happened to me awhile back. were you using doom or idoom by any chance?

    No. Once it happened with herc against LoL starlord (dashed in right when he threw his sp1) and two 2 times other than that but I'm positive that I wasn't using doom at that time and I don't even have Idoom, atleast not in a usable state so I doubt I would've used him either.

    It literally says in Doom’s kit that his heavy stun against a shocked opponent can’t trigger during their special

    DLX’s Wolvie had a similar effect, he throw a special as his power drained result in him finishing the special attack without spending any power

    Yeah it can happen. Happened with archangel against winter soldier, doom against someone and someone else I don't remember.
