7* basic crystal is the wise choice, as it has at least a 80% (if not 90%) chance for a better champion.
Unless another buff of CW is coming soon, but I highly doubt it.
(Actually, you could get him if you already sold it just recently, since you won't get the money in just 10 days)
But it's a bit sad to say that yes: I'd rather choose the generic 7* crystal than a guaranteed rare champion who'll do almost nothing new for me and has a clunky and repetitive playstyle.

I'd much rather have the exclusive 7-star than an expensive basic crystal from that final milestone, personally.
However, I can see the appeal in going for the basic if your 7-star roster isn't developed yet.
