With item use gone, why are generics not part of class advancement?

So with item use long gone and other events have been created to compensate, whether good or bad, liked or not; why haven't generic stone and gem use been added to class advancement events?

Never understood the logic of only class stones and gems counting. It's a class advancement event. However we advance that class should count.
