You attach them to your champipns and they give them particular boosts. You can only match them class to class, and ideally you want to match relics with champions that will benefit from the boost. With Black Panther, you probably want to pair him with a champ that crits a lot.
The most beneficial aspect of relics is the striker. A striker works kinda like a special attack. You have a power tank for the striker that you will build up and you activate the striker like you would a special. Each relic has a special bonus when you throw the striker, but the best part is the passive stun you apply (regardless of stun immunities) at the end of the striker. This helps you extend combos, find opportunities to throw heavies, and deal some extra damage.
They can change the value of a champ completely. 6 star r1 hulkbuster relic gives 50 percent shock potency and duration which turns my r3 guardian from a great champ to a god
