  Honestly, the concept of an awakening gem crystal that you can unlock with shards is really cool, and would help with the acquisition of awakening gems as a whole.

  Not really. I got a science AG from that crystal but all of my 7* science champs are duped. So right now that AG is useless to me. Now if it was a generic or nexus, it would be better and be more exciting going after.

  The new Shard AG is still “random” as for the Class.
  
  The Shards are “Generic”, but then when you use the 10,000 Shards you form/buy an RNG-based Class AG crystal (opening the crystal gives a RNG based Class AG).

  Not sure how new you are to the game, but it normally takes a long time before generic AGs are ever offered. We've been spoiled with how easy it is to get 6* AGs in recent times, but I also remember it took a long time before they were available and even longer after that before we ever started seeing generics.
  
  Getting class gems you don't want/need is just part of the normal MCOC experience.
