Can’t go wrong with attuma is the better defender but Cheelith is a great attacker and decent defender if needed. She’s very versatile and you’ll be able to use her more often than Attuma.
I always prefer ranking attackers over defenders. She’s fun to play. I’ve been debating taking her to R3 for a while myself. Feels like the skill class is lacking in top 7*s. NF and Kingpin need to be added already.
Attackers have purely greater value in this game as opposed to defenders. As time goes by, defenders will become easier to face as the community will keep discovering new ways to tackle them and more counters will get released. Whereas attackers will always be able to do everything they can do now in the future.
That being said, cheeilth is GREAT in everything; unfortunately not the fastest in Battlegrounds but she's very useful in war and time and time again is proven to be very useful for end game content such as AW showcase and AOA like content. She has great utility and can take alot of matchups you wouldn't expect.
Atuma on the other hand rarely gets used in attack (FOR A REASON). His value lies as an annoying defender and eventually he will get sunken down to maybe Korg level whereas he's not feared as much as he used to be(he's slowly getting there). With alot of the new mutants relying on being a counter to him as a way to give them value (as every new attacker to defender relationship is) he will not be so much of a threat very soon.
Both great champions but I'd say cheeilth will bring you better value overall.
I always prioritize defenders over attackers. There are many more viable attackers in the game than there are meta defenders. (And Attuma can actually do some cool attacker stuff in longer matchups.)
Ultimately, both champs are awesome. You can’t go wrong either way.
I R3'd my duped Attuma recently. In BG they normally leave him alone and ban my Serpent, Enchantress, and Photon religiously. If he pops up mid to late river, it usually leads to a win if I select him as defender.
