Who will still be playing when 8* arrives in future

Kabam is stretching the longevity of 7* for the greater good, with more time players can build a roster of 7* that will still be relevant and 6* can be used for longer in the absence of 8*
When 8* are here, 6* will be like 5*, obselete
We all know the loop, we can envision getting 8* Groot out of a crystal LOL

And currently prepping my account as much as possible for the arrival of 8*'s. Been stacking gold because they're going to be crazy expensive to level and rank up.
With 8s, we're talking like 3 years from now, assuming the game stays around that long (I think and hope it will).
And heck, Kabam might require actual crypto to rank up 8s when that time comes, who knows...

    Not playing
They won't be a thing as there is no necessity of ever being a thing.

Regardless, I've been planning to quit for a while (more than a year plan) and will finally do it in the next day or two. Was just waiting for the end of deathless chase, AoA and raids. So I won't see it happening, but not that it would.

I will like to see a lot more RPG elements by the time 8* arrive (I mean stat manipulation), I'd love to have more control over a champion beyond masteries and stat focus. I'd love to see stuff like burst damage, fire damage and leveling beyond a certain threshold gives stat points to use.
Don't know how they'll implement this but it's their job to figure it out I guess

    Jesus H Christ, they're planning 8*?!

Last I checked 8 comes immediately after 7, and I don’t think they have the resources available to invent a new counting system.
    Numbers matter!

Let’s hope they think of new ways to advance the gane.

There's going to be a new rarity one day. There's no "other way" of advancing the game, because the reason why new rarities are added to the game is to periodically restart the champion chase. Once too many players have too many champs, the incremental benefit of chasing the next one drops to the point it no longer matters enough. So a new rarity is introduced that no one has, so the chase can start fresh.

Technically, there's one alternative, but no one likes it and it usually fails across longer stretches of time. Instead of introducing new rarities to keep the chase fresh, the devs can simply decide to make all 2026 champs unambiguously better in all respects than all previous ones, and then again in 2029, and so on. This would be introducing a new rarity every three years embedded within the same rarity number, but having the same effect. This technically works, but it is so much worse than introducing new rarities that there's zero chance the developers entertain that option.

Without this fundamental requirement, the devs could just make 7* champs have 200 ranks and call it a day for the next hundred years. The reason why rarities don't have tons and tons of ranks is because the devs know they won't be able to use them all before being required to introduce a new rarity. Rarity is not just about giving us stronger champs. It is about managing the long term chase that powers the game's existence.
That's just power creeping with extra steps

    Not really.

Making the champs more powerful over time to encourage players to chase them would be classic power creep. Introducing new rarities is not power creep as the term is usually used. The big difference is that when a new rarity is introduced, (nearly all of) the previously existing champions are released into that new rarity tier. The relative power of champions is roughly preserved. So champion design itself does not get increasingly more powerful. All other things being equal, newer champs are not necessarily more powerful than older ones. And that’s why releasing new rarities is far superior to escalating their strength over time. Simply making champs more and more powerful moots all of the older ones. Releasing new rarities does not.

In broad strokes, you could argue that each new rarity is a power creep step. But it functions in a completely different way and doesn’t suffer the same problems as power creep normally implies.

I'm hoping they can come up with a new model for champ growth.
Ability addons or something, half the champs could be built differently, maybe they make it so they have a base build and then you get to add on more or swap out stuff.

Years ago I said that I’d be done when/if 7* came out and I’m still here so props to Kabam for doing something right and keeping me engaged enough to play the game this long.
