When do you think we will see Paragon and Valiant Arena Crystals?

EdisonLawEdisonLaw Member Posts: 11,338 ★★★★★

When do you think we will see the next arena crystal? So far we have regular arena crystals, uncollected arena crystals, as well as thronebreaker arena crystals as well. But do you think we will see others as well? How much do you think they may cost? Will they have 6/7 star Punisher as a trophy champ, or maybe even a buffed Punisher?

...dude Paragon would be 100k each and Valiant 500k. I don't think I want that

Imagine spending 500k battlechips just to get a few mil in gold or 3k units.

    Nahh uncollected is fine,
There's possibility that if Kabam make new crystals they might goof up with probability numbers for "trying to balance out odds in long run" 😬

Probably not for a very very long time if ever. Yes, one of the rewards is Punisher, and yes, as rarities get released there will be this idea that higher arena crystals should arrive to award those higher rarities, but that's a side issue to the main reason higher arena crystals were released, and that was to allow players to buy consolidated crystals. Rather than buy 500 crystals they could buy a hundred, or twenty, and get comparable rewards.

But the TB crystal immediately ran into a problem. The UC crystal simply scaled up the rewards from the base crystal. The UC crystal costs five times more, and drops rewards that are themselves scaled up to be five times bigger. But if they did that with the TB crystal, the five full energy refills that the UC crystal drops would have scaled up to be 25 full energy refills. That's problematic, because a lot of players can't use 25 full energy refills before they start to expire. So they reduced that from 25 to 10 and increased the drop odds to compensate, so the actual energy refill value remained the same. But increasing the odds of energy refills dropping had to come from somewhere, so gold odds dropped to compensate (the total odds of everything has to add up to 100% by definition). Since gold odds dropped, gold values had to rise, so the gold rewards ended up being scaled up more than 5x to compensate for the slightly lower drop odds (in fact, this ends up with the statistical average amount of gold per battlechip being slightly higher for TB crystals than UC or basic crystals just to keep the numbers rounded to nice values).

That means a hypothetical Paragon arena crystal runs into a bunch of problems. It would, if scaled similarly to the others, be five times more expensive, and have to recalculate all of its drop odds to make the rewards come out right. And the number of people who would buy it would be pretty low. One million battlechips only buys twenty TB crystals now, it would only buy four Paragon crystals. That's getting kinda silly.

My guess is that at some point if Kabam really feels like putting the higher rarity Punishers out there, instead of designing a new arena crystal they would just add it as a very rare reward in the TB crystal, which would require much less tinkering. And separate from that, there's no other practical reason to release a much bigger arena crystal.

We'll get them when they make a separate 7 star arena........ Never.

KABAM is trying to slow down progression to maximize profit by trickling out resources. That wouldn't help.

If only you edited for accuracy.

7* arena would not impact overall game progression at all. Few people everget the top rarity rewards in compettive arena when those rarities are progression-relevant. They were just a way for the spenders who were already spending tons on crystals to get new champs who wanted to use effort to get them to spend slightly less and expend tremendous effect. Exactly zero players who would benefit from a 7* featured arena are failing to get those champions by other means now.

If Kabam's primary interest was maximizing profit, at least in the short term, they would just sell more stuff. Slowing down progression doesn't actually improve short term profits. Faster progress does, by accelerating the rate at which the most expensive stuff enters the game for the highest spenders to chase after. But that erodes the long term health of the game by not giving everyone else enough time to catch up to the fastest players, so the devs try not to do that, because their primary motivation is not to make as much money as possible, because they don't get to take home any of that money. It is to make a game that lasts as long as possible, because that's how they pay their rent.

I don't know if you can answer this with certainty, but wasn't there some issues when the new (at the time)Arena crystals dropped and when players opened it expecting the new rarity of punisher, nobody got it? And then Kabam pushed a fix and then people started pulling him? Is this true or just a myth.

Or they can introduce a buffed 7* punisher via a different event, even if they do put him in the TB crystal, very few people are actually gonna pull him

I *think* something like that happened once in this context, but I don’t recall the precise circumstances.

My recollection is there was no compensation for that, but to be honest there was no practical way to compensate players for that one. It was a rare trophy champ, so there’s no way to know who might have gotten it. They could not just give it away to everyone. And there is no way they were going to just give everyone their battle chips back, because the primary reward in those are units.

If it was me I would have said something, but honestly there’s was nothing they could say that wouldn’t just inflame matters more back then.
