They should review their banning system. I have never used third-party software and I was banned.

    It's impossible to know, because we observers don't have access either to what Kabam sees or what the banned players have done or not done.
    But Kabam did use new software to catch thousands of cheaters today, so should we be surprised if a bunch of people are going to claim today that they were unfairly banned?

    The announcement said they banned accounts that are using a version of the game that was not downloaded via apple, google, or Kabam as these are the only legitimate sources for the app

    Which just the posts today in the past few hours would more than double so I doubt its kabams fault

    I don't know but I can guess. The announcement essentially says they have deployed new ways to detect modded game clients. If I had to guess, I suspect anyone found using a modded game client and has actually been detected exhibiting remotely sus behavior (i.e. cheated in any way) has probably been banned. Anyone detected using a modded or otherwise unauthorized game client that hasn't actually been detected cheating with it yet has been given warnings and put on a watch list.

    This is a guess. I have no direct knowledge of the details of this particular announced ban wave.

    Why show any mercy at all? Maybe Kabam decided there might be a lot of players who for whatever reason are using side loaded clients but may not realize these side loaded clients are not just coming from an unauthorized site but also have been modded. There have been a few instances like that recently where players have been discovered running copies of the game from unauthorized download sites. Maybe they want to cut those guys some slack if they were just complete idiots and not actual cheaters.

    Make no mistake: if you are downloading this game from an unauthorized source and have no way to absolutely verify the provenance of it, you are a complete idiot. Anyone who does that deserves to have their game account vaporized, and is explicitly stated grounds for doing so. Any warning they get is a gift.

    also got banned for no reason. i have Huawei and Xiaomi as phones, are these triggering the system?

    Updating it through google play isn't what caused it, it's where you downloaded it from.

    I was today old when I found out it was even possible to download from a third-party site.

    I’m guessing this is the only way to cheat? Kind of surprised that it’s taken this long to be able to detect it but the impact should be massively positive.

    The annoying part about all this is that there are too many posts and Crashed won't waste his time replying to all of them :(. Wished we had just a couple of people, get the entertainment rolling for the weekend, then we get the Crashed hammer on Monday

    More than 10,000 accounts were banned today.
    I think it's to be expected that there are so many threads and posts.
    And I have no idea whether all the bans were valid or not.
    But I do know that if you go to an arraignment court anywhere in the country, every defendant will swear to you that they're innocent.
    Cheaters lie; that's their whole personality.

    I have no idea whether these people are innocent or not, I only know i haven't been banned and use the play store, but I don't really have 100% confidence in kabams coding prowess and judgement so a few points/thoughts.

    1) if they are confident in technology to detect this, why not as a first step just prevent any account the system is flagging from logging in using this rather than straight ban. Then at least someone can stream a video of them with a fresh play store install and still get the block (if they insist they are innocent)

    2) would genuine cheating software probably not have a way of masking its true source

    3) why do this on a Friday, feels weird to drop it and then not be able to be as responsive the next couple of days in case there was a mistake (not that I know if there has been).
