Sucks for the people that didn't get unbanned and swear innocence
Well, if there's a genuine case, sure. We know as much as anyone there's always a plethora of innocent claims. I'm glad they're resolving the erroneous ones. This is why I never form a judgment. I don't have access to the data to tell myself.

Hi everyone. Obviously there is a lot of consternation and confusion right now over the recent bans. I just wanted to clarify a few things.
As the official post says, playing on a client distributed by anybody other than us or our official partners could get you flagged for a ban. Yes, this means if you sideloaded the game you were likely flagged. Our official partners are Apple, Google, Flexion and Steam. We distribute the game on PC through the downloader at https://playcontestofchampions.com/ Those are the only official channels to get the game, if you used any other means you were likely flagged.
We tested this algorithm against hundreds of known good accounts without any false positives. Having said that, in any action this big, there might be edge cases that couldn't be accounted for in advance. We are obviously taking these reports seriously and investigating these cases.
Again, I am not trying to clear anyone's name, nor am I trying to attest all of the following statements are true. However, I have heard a lot about anyone using any form of VPN or from countries that cannot play the game are banned. This is quite worrying. I will no longer be in America during 4th or July, sadly, and that brings to the question of if I want to play the game do I get banned for trying to in another country? Is this against terms of service? I have downloaded the game from App Store, and I trust a lot of other people have downloaded the game from correct resources, heck, I don't think anyone's trying deliberately to access this game when it's perfectly good sitting on your Google Play or Apple store. So again, this has resulted in some bans, and I am quite worried on how to respond to this. I could skip the 4th of July, but if I log on using a VPN and get permabanned because of it I will ask for a full refund.
I was really thinking about quiting the game, 7.5m account, never cheated in my life, did everything in-game 100%, there is basically nothing there for me to cheat for, and I always download the game from play store, yet, I got banned for 7 days. Not to mention I didn't know what triggered it, in order to remove this false positive, is it Custom rom? Is it root? Is it YouTube Vanced (YouTube with no ads and picture in picture), game mode? Using VPN all the time? I'll have to wait and see what will happen, since I'm still banned till this very moment. Karinshi

Unlocking your bootloader/custom rom would've triggered Google anti-cheat. So that is probably it as it then allows you to mod the game.

I’ve been using custom ROMs on my Android devices for at least 15 years. Throughout all this time, I’ve always played MCOC on devices with custom ROMs. I’ve never used mods or cheats, and I’ve always downloaded and updated the game exclusively through the Google Play Store for over a decade.
I find the logic behind this ban deeply unfair. Are users being penalized just because they might mod the game, simply because they use a custom ROM? What sense does that make?
I don’t use a custom ROM to cheat or alter games. If the goal is to protect the integrity of the app, then implement a detection system that actually checks the game itself and identifies users who are running a modified version.
Punishing all custom ROM users indiscriminately is like expelling a student from an exam just because they might cheat, without any evidence of wrongdoing. It’s a logic based on suspicion, not on facts. And that’s neither fair nor effective.

I am a lineage os user. I do not use google services. I install the game via apkmirror as armeabi v7a with fps focus. You cannot explain this to the people here, the only thing they can say to you is that you acted against the TOS rules. Don't be stupid like me by expecting people who have played such a game for years to have software knowledge. I tried to explain it but they are neither in a position to understand nor have the capacity to do research

kudos to those who kick players out of alliance when they were wrongly banned for 7 days
(edit : sarcasm, in case you missed it)

I’m guessing not.
They're reinstating accounts that might have wrongfully been banned. Not ones that are only trying to log in from a clean version after the fact.
