I really would like for matchmaking to not just be for current rank rating (ex. Arcane 1 with Arcane 1) but also maybe prestige or average battle deck power rating instead. I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels like this and would be interested in what the community has to say.
This would be the most unfair matchmaking system ever. Imagine someone who’s normally in the middle of gladiator circuit, but doesn’t want to fight larger accounts, decided to make a new account for battlegrounds. They keep prestige and the bottom of their deck low, and they cruise up towards very high rewards because all they had to do was fight people who had the same deck as them but significantly less experience. That’s an extreme example, but it’s not unlikely.
There are problems with every system. I get frustrated at our battlegrounds system sometimes too, but it’s the most fair way to do it. If you reach your peak in bgs, go explore content to get rank 4 7*s and then go back to battlegrounds. I’m ftp and that’s what I did. I’m still at a disadvantage because the bottom of my deck is worse than most people where I am in gc, but I stand a fighting chance.
Yeah apparently I really struck a cord here...I was just frustrated with my matchmakings getting beat by rosters that are way better and losing to games simply cause my roster isn't as big a variety or high of health. But I also didn't want to come on here to rant just to rant cause I don't think that is helpful in any way so I thought I'd give an idea for a solution at least, but obviously that isn't what wants to be heard lol.

We saw a version of this when BG used deck matching in VT. People would just set low decks to deliberately face weaker accounts. It might sound fair to make a deliberately weak deck, because then your deck is no stronger than the competition, but in practice you had nine year veterans destroying players who just joined the game last week. These were incredibly lopsided matches. I used to field a max 4* deck in those days - which was actually a relatively "fair" way to play around with this, as the really lopsided match ups were using 2* deck average manipulation - and I was winning at a higher than 75% win rate.
Would someone engineer an entire account to keep prestige and roster low? The answer is yes, but that's not even the real problem. The real problem, which also happened during the deck matching days, is all the players who saw this happen and came to the conclusion that actually chasing and ranking champs was actually a disadvantage in BG. It wasn't *exactly*, but there was a real element to this, and it was magnified in the public discourse to be: if you rank champs, you're hurting your chances in BG.
Perpetuating this sentiment is a literal existential threat to the game. So much so that Kabam publicly admitted that this sentiment was one of the reasons why they got rid of deck matching back then. Nullifying roster advantage is bad enough, but when players start thinking it is actually a disadvantage, that cannot be allowed to persist.

Hey, sorry if some of us sounded critical.. it was a valid question And you are taking the feedback graciously and it's appreciated But yeah, it kind of happens to all of us.. we go on a win streak and then run into an account that has us outmatched - just keep grinding 💪
I think that makes sense with hitting a ceiling every season and it being a marathon, especially as the game needs to continue to grow over time to increase the longevity of it.
I guess I just don't understand the fact that wins come from money in a video game that has quite a high skill cap. Which is why I'm sure this may be viewed more as a rant than helpful.
Honestly you bring up good points, that have been talked in this forum for a while now, but almost everybody on here treat this as a common practice, like bruh MCOC monetisation strategy will never get beyond this community because they have been so used to sh**ty things in this game they can't understand what balance means.
Yeah. How about we turn this into a discussion over who has the most experience with playing, studying, and working with massively multiplayers online games and who has the best understanding of what game balance means.
Somehow, I think someone who's opinion of the monetization of the game is that Kabam is too greedy because players need units just to progress in the game, who thinks progression in this game is far harder and more expensive than most other mobile games they've played, is going to have some difficulty there.
To be fair they did put a 7* bastion behind a 500$ paywall. Kabam isn't exactly the most generous, staff team and bgs balancing problems are growing on people's minds. Me personally, I still think 3* champ mode that's optional for players that have smaller rosters or people with high skill levels would be cool to see and work around the balancing problem. But being completely honest I doubt they will do that.

I commend you for keeping an open mind. Many times these discussions devolve into, well, not this. Unfortunately, to someone the system will always have flaws. Currently,, its your turn. That'll change soon hopefully for you. Keep on grinding & maybe sometime your roster will be the reason for a similar post...
My understanding of BGs is that it is to prove who are the best players in the game, not who spends the most amount of money. The rewards are what drives the players to participate yes, and I do believe that if you're spending the money in the game then you should be rewarded well, but if they're not good at the game why does it make sense that money should take away from people who are actually more skillful or knowledgeable of the game? I remember working my way up and losing to rosters by just sitting on pause because their defensive champs were way better. I'm not saying I'm the best out there or above middle-class even, it just doesn't make much sense to me that that is the reward we think people should gain from spending money in a game.
For example a group of young kids start playing this one sport. Some kids come from wealthier backgrounds and then there's some players who don't. Do the wealthier players automatically go pro? No. It's the players who practice and get better despite the money they put in. It shouldn't matter based on how much money they spend on the game they play. I don't know if that makes much sense, and the analogy will be flawed to some degree, but just processing through this lens of forums.
You're confused. The only pay to play aspect of of BGs is people who have spent money to get big rosters. You can't pay money to be good at BGs. Many of these players buy their way through content. Sure their roster is big but most likely, they don't have have the skills to compete, especially if they're in the lower brackets.
There are many with big rosters and good skill but they are already at the top in BGs. You most likely aren't facing them unless you're in celestial.
Stop making sense they can't understand
I thought you were done? Or you’re just done whining about easy content like WoF?
Cries about WoF but wants to talk down to others. Nice.

Yeah, it's just interesting how it is all set up and frustrating at times for sure. I wish there was a simple solution to it all, but that's not the case always.
Appreciate the insight and encouragement and hopefully I'll get up there sooner rather than later lol.
While fighting against whales is a large problem in bgs, there isn't really a proper reason to fix it without some group of players getting angry. Making it easier for smaller/ftp rosters to get rewards just feels cheap and some players with larger rosters will complain. Do I think a skill based mode should exist, Absolutely. Winning because you have a better roster but being a worse player is dum dum logic but I don't know if they will ever implement a "skill based" version of battlegrounds.
That seems like what is coming down the pike with the 2 star thing coming up: Fantastic Force Recruitment
Competitive Meta Event 2* Focus Everyone competes with the same roster 52 specific champs to use Highest ranks get Featured 7*
Maybe this mode is the beginning of a potentially good idea.
Like what if everyone started with the same champs/leveled deck that is separate from BG, where they keep the rewards there still quite good and monthly, but they have almost a completely separate mode that similar to tournament at the beginning of every quarter or something where everyone starts with the same deck/champs/level etc. Sort of how in clash royale where in tournaments/game modes both players start same level. This way skill from each player is required more than just money or something if that makes. They keep these 'toureys' quarterly as to not overwhelm players with too much content and to keep a flow of interest in BG. This is me just spitballing so not a full idea, but just brainstorming a bit. This may have been brought up before so whoops if thats the case, still new on here.
I'm a whale, I have terrible skills, and I don't have enough time to play the game to get better and even then, I would only ever be mediocre at best. I have mostly purchased champs and R3's/R4's, because I am not good enough to do end-game content. I never win in GC unless people quit out when they see my roster. I've never made it out of uranium because I'm that bad. People with weaker rosters that play me crush me, and if you do end game content, we should have similar rosters. Stop complaining and get better and you can progress way past me in GC.

There is no uranium. Shows how much you "play the game"

I have a fairly decent account and see people just nodding out that could probably beat me if they actually played.
Just play. At worst you learn some counters and ways to beat folk.
Luck
You will need luck to face non-Whales with plenty of R4/R3
So
You will win 2 points over "normal ones" and lose 1 to these Mastodonts
And if you have this....you may rank up on BG with 5 or 6 points
Cries about WoF but wants to talk down to others. Nice.
Just sit on the toilet and swipe and tap.
It’s a fun game.
I appreciate the encouragement.
