Lets hear some opinions. I have 15k 5* shards ready and waiting. Just need to know which one Ill have a better chance at getting a decent 5*. Don't want to waste a crystal on a 5* spider gwen or something.

Depends. The odds of getting a "decent" champion are better with the featured crystal. Blade is almost unanimously considered a "decent" champion even by most of the people who think he is overrated. So it is mathematically guaranteed you have a better chance of getting a decent champ from the featured vs the basic champ.
But for some people, the question is whether that increased odds is worth spending 50% more shards. That's a harder question to answer. But the math in general says if you just want a better than average champion you are better off opening three basics rather than two featureds. If you are looking for top tier champions, where top tier is the top 10% of all champions (however you would judge them) then the odds favor opening two featureds rather than three basics.
The break even point is about one in seven. Meaning: if you look at the basic crystal contents and more than one in seven is a champion you are trying to get, open basics. If less than one in seven is a champion you are trying to get, open the featured. And Blade is your last chance to make this choice.
I have an awakened 4 star Blade at rank 5. I am still getting used to him, and using him with Sparky, mostly to benefit Sparky. Sometimes he is good, sometimes I do not understand what's wrong with him, but That's just me getting used to him (his Regen in particular is hard to understand sometimes, even at full power).
And because all the champions I want are in the basic crystal already (including Blade), I would rather awaken or get new champions. Wost case scenario i get a crappy champion for only 10k shards (the same crappy champion is in the featured). I really do not like the odds against me there. How long will this crystal run for anyway? A week?
I’m gonna go shed a single tear before calling it a night. Later
