In our most recent war, our opponents showed an attack bonus of 439 (11 missed) but we had 18 different people register at least 1 defensive kill, (as shown by the skirmish rewards). It's not logically possible for our opponents to have had more than 432 in attack bonus. And since some of our people had multiple defenders with multiple kills, their number should have been even less.

If you could send over some screenshots of your War Summary, and the Skirmisher Rewards message, I can make sure that it's correct.
55 Nodes *3 per Node = 165
165*3 BG = 495
so max bonus is 495!
Maybe because you have 450 opportunities max. On top of the 15 you get by default? Idk. It is pretty vague.
It is just a mistake. You have to deduce the correct point totals from the rules, and the critical rule is this one:
This rule is necessary to prevent an opposing alliance from choosing to place no defenders at all and deny you any ability to earn attacker side points. But since there are 55 defender nodes on the map and you can only place 50 defenders max per battle group, that means you are mathematically incapable of covering all the nodes, so the attacking side gets five freebees - IF they reach and walk through the node. The spreadsheet just erroneously shows 450 possible attacker bonuses based on max defenders, and not 495 possible attacker bonuses based on the total defensible nodes.
ERRONEOUS!!! ERRONEOUS!! Erroneous on both counts.
Writing more so it doesn’t go away to never never land after the edit.
This has come up before in other threads, and Kabam already confirmed how the rule functions and what the total point count should be. @Kabam Miike actually mentions this in his post in this thread when he references walking through the five empty nodes.
