Why is Wasp not an Avenger?

PhidoggPhidogg Member Posts: 37
Wasp and Ant-man were two of the original Avengers, so why isn't Wasp classified as an Avenger? Because she's not in the Hollywood version of the movies? Check back in the animated series and you will see her and Ant-man (Gi ant-man). Thanks as always hope her tags change soon.

    Hi @Phidogg

We do not decide which Tags each Champion gets on our own. This is done in conjunction with Marvel, and they have the final say on the Universe Tags for Champions.

I think there's a lot of confusion though because of how inconsistent it is in the game.

If you look at Ant-Man's profile, he has an Avenger tag. In the comics he is an Avenger, but in the movies he is not (not yet). In the game he is presented in his movie suit, but still tagged as an Avenger. Wasp is in her movie suit and also not on the movie Avengers, yet is an Avenger in the comics. So the tagging is weird. Both are Avengers in the comics, but only one is tagged. Neither are Avengers in the films, but one is still tagged.

War Machine is presented in his movie suit, but is also not tagged as an Avenger, even though in the movies he is one. The same is true with Spider-Man (Stark Enhanced). Captain America (WWII) also has this problem.

But then both Ragnarok Thor and Hulk also have Avenger tags. Hulk had quit the team in that film, and Thor was away from his allies as well (it doesn't make him not an Avenger, but he is without the team in that film).

If it's a Marvel issue, it would be useful to know why they tell you to apply the tag to some, but not to others (especially when it comes to the movie characters). There's some interesting tags on profiles that seem to have no use, but keep getting tagged (#A-Force, #Champions, #Villain of the Contest). I know I wonder what those additional tags are for.

Basically the OP is trying to give a reason from sources outside the game, which are almost irrelevant.
If she's not an avenger in this game, then that's it. No champion "should" be or not something just because they are in other games/universe's

I would be very interested to hear their reasoning behind Corvus and Proxima Midnight not being villains.

In conjunction with means they both have a part. So KABAM may have not wanted corvus and proxima to be villains and if marvel was fine with that then they would've let it be but if marvel want wasp to not be an avenger, they have the final say and so KABAM cna;t do anything about it

You’d think the guy who came up with the name would have an avenger tag but sadly Fury is not considered an avenger.

Antman has been an avenger for 2 movies thus far, remember civil war? he became an avenger then.

Fury is an agent of shield, he was not really an avenger.. He organized them, and somewhat guides them, but was never one of them.

The first thing you need to understand is that the "marvel universe" people refer to is actually the "marvel multiverse".
This multiverse includes every single universe that is canonically part of marvel.

Why is this important? Because it might help you understand the following:

The characters in this game are not the 616 (main marvel universe) versions, even if they resemble them.
They aren't the mcu versions, even if they resemble them.
They also aren't the ulitmate versions, even if they resemble them.

They are interpretations of the characters they resemble, made to work in a fighting game.
And as canonical marvel characters they are seperate iterations of the characters you know from the comics, movies, tv shows, etc.

They are their own seperate entities.

Bingo. In legal terms I would assume that all the characters in MCOC are actually ultimately work for hire property of Marvel. Which is to say, Marvel ultimately owns them, not Kabam. So Marvel editorial has the final say on all aspects of the characters created or iterated into the game.

In a very real sense, the MCOC team is no different from a team of writers working on something like the Ultimate universe. They can use Marvel IP, add new IP, change up things as they see fit to create new things, or change and adapt things to fit this separate part of the Marvel universe as a whole. But all under the ultimate control and approval of Marvel editors or managers. Complaining that Wasp is not an Avenger in the Marvel Contest of Champions is like complaining that Nick Fury is an african american in the Marvel Cinematic Universe or in the Ultimates universe. The writing team in the Ultimates universe was allowed to re-envision the Nick Fury character without having to replicate him from the main Marvel universe, because the Ultimates universe is a different universe, and the MCU was allowed to borrow that iteration of the character, but make their own significant changes to him because the MCU is also a different universe. The MCOC universe is different yet again.

To use DC terminology, the MCOC is an Elseworld. In this Elseworld, all resemblances to main Marvel characters is intended to be evocative, but also in some ways coincidental (because the characters didn't "have to be" that way).

Because when Stark gave Parker that suit, it was before he was an Avenger. It was pre-Infinity War. If they added another Spidey, say an Iron Spidey, I'd expect them to make him an Avenger since Tony welcomed him as one when they were on the way to Titan with Doctor Strange.
