Why has solo practice raids turned into the only way to level up

Man oh man
I have so much feedback on essentia. But my first concern is that I can only convert 400 glory to Essentia. I currently have 16620 glory. I have 6200 glory expiring in 2 hours. There is nothing for me to spend the glory on. Sure i could have kept up better with all the stuff going on but man its supposed to be fun.

What's the point of running Raids now?
Genuine question. Why use Essentia to buy Raids tickets when we could use that Essentia to purchase what we'd get in Raids chests anyway? Plus, we can target exactly the materials we want rather than deal with the RNG of the chests. What am I not understanding here?
