Crystal Cleanse: Wrap Up

We made it!
Okay, mostly Brian made it. Brian decided to open his eggs, which granted the realm 500,000,000 points and doomed the universe in the process. Go team. So that's it, then, right? Well...
Yeah, of course there's a gigantic crystal opening spike at the very end, when managed to reach 70 million crystals per hour over the seven hours or so while I was asleep. But what if we eliminate Brian's eggs? We can do that, because I know he got exactly 500m points for that.
Wait, why is there still a giant spike upward at the end? It is there because completely separate from Brian, it seems a ton of players decided to wait until the very last minute (or at least the very last several hours) to open a lot of crystals. How many more?
Quite a lot. Day 35 basically ties day 4 for most crystals opened in a day, almost ten million more than was typical towards the end. In fact, the last two days trended upward, which means in the last 48 hours players decided to start opening crystals like crazy. It seems players didn't completely give up so much as they waited too long. Maybe if that sort of energy existed throughout the event, we could have come close or reached the billion mark.
It is important to understand the psychology of events like this. It is all about momentum. If too many people think we won't make it, we won't make it. Conversely, if enough people think we will, we will. Many people were saying that the goal was simply impossible, so there was no point to trying. I can say with absolute certainty this was wrong. I know for a fact that there were enough crystals in the player population to reach the goal. And not in a "well, if everyone opens thousands of solo crystals or pops open tons of T4CC crystals and then loses those resources in overflow" kind of way.. It was possible if everyone just did what they normally did plus an amount more that was comparable to the number of crystals the typical player could earn in a 35 day period.
We did not fail to reach the top milestone because Kabam put the goal out of reach. We failed to reach it because too many people - who did not know what they were talking about, I will emphasize - convinced everyone else to not bother.
The last two days showed that there were, and are still players willing to try. They also seem to be the part of the playerbase with faulty alarm clocks, but still, they are there, and willing to dive in. We need those people to be the nucleus of our playerbase for future realm events. If we're more like them, only, you know, timely, we can beat these events. If we don't, blame the naysayers, not Kabam. Something to keep in mind for the Battleground Blitz.
And yes, I am going to post weekly analysis of the Battleground Blitz as well. The first one might be a tad delayed, as it comes on the same day as the last day of Crystal Cleanse, and I have one, maybe two more Crystal Cleanse posts to wrap this one up. The next one, well, let's just say the ending hasn't been written yet.
Last thing: a few people have asked what the likely target was for getting top 10% rank rewards. I can't say with certainty, but if I had to guess, I would guess around 5k-7k. It is almost certainly less than 10k. We'll see when the ranked rewards go out.

That Last several hours push made the finished at 12am. I wake up at 430 am event gone that whole blast of at the end leaves alot out. Simply because where they live and would kinda need to be addressed for future events.
The precise motivations for that are varied, and I did not feel it necessary to characterize them here.
For those worried, Kabam is still working on it, and my information is that everyone should get the rewards they were entitled to for the event up to at least the milestone they qualified for, whether they managed to claim those rewards or not. It is just a question of when Kabam is able to put Humpty Dumpty back together again and have rewards go out to everyone.
