This event was a bummer for me.
I bought enough crystals to get to 100 points, and other than the guaranteed 7* crystal (tigra), i didn't get anything noteworthy. Like @DocWest, i feel like i always get the short end of the RNG stick.
Dark phoenix feels even worse because there's no other way to acquire her, but she's a powerful defender. I (barely) have the units to get the 6* DP, but given my rng luck, i just don't think it's worth the steep price for the 6* version.

.. hehe yeahBro just desperate to open some heart of fivestar crystals. 😂I have a confession to make, I opened this one because I didn’t know I could back out of it, well that invalidates my run but it’s been fun and I might still hoard until banquet or something and do a big opening.You can just click the back button after the game forces you to buy it and you can skip opening it.You're able to skip the forced purchase of a starter crystal? How? I didn't realize and opened that too. But that and the 2* at the start are the only ones opened.I am going to try this challenge too. It seems fun.It is fun, make sure the only crystal you open is the nexus 2* at the very beginning. You can skip all of the other ones.

Thanks @ESF and @NONYABIZZ - both posts were really helpful. I like the Cyclops R2 and DPX R3 advice. R2 really is sufficient for a lot of questing content for the better rounded champ whereas the R3 on the BGs heavy champ obviously is important. Will probably go that route.

As the proud owner of a sig 200 r3 spidy99 I would strongly suggest him for anything other than bgs. Can do short, medium, long form content and has insane utility. Can counter unstoppable, evade, power gain, buff punishing nodes, healing (with despair). And this is all by himself, with the antivenom synergy he gets even more versatile as he can reverse power gain right from the beginning of a fight and can play the no hit game by just hitting block which is very useful for nodes like hazard shift. He doesn't need the synergy for other stuff but does really benefit from high sig.
Overall he is pretty cool, I did use him a lot in 9.2 exploration, had managed a necropolis claire voyant solo in 5-6 minutes with no synergies just boosts as well. I like quicksilver a lot as well, he is one of the most utility packed champs in the entire game and it all comes down to preference in the end. I would personally pick between these two depending on how much you enjoy them.
Also, for some impressive spidy99 gameplay I'd highly recommend @MaskedLegend as he's literally an expert on the champion. I did learn a lot from him personally and guy has over 40 necropolis solos. To put it into perspective, necropolis has 52 fights excluding grandmaster. I'm pretty sure that you'd get a better understanding of the potential of the champion by checking out his channel.

TLDR: spidy99 and quicksilver are both great combinations of damage + utility. My pick would be spidy99 who excels at all kinds of content other than bgs. He's just so cool.
