One of my initial requests on this feature was that we could have the ability to turn it on / off at will in the future. It's definitely something that's been discussed, but did not make it in for V1.
No promises on a quick change, but I will poke at it again.

On the same note, is it also possible to either change the color or use a brighter shade of red for the owned crystals?

Yep, +1 on everything related to help for us disabled folks. I'm not colorblind, but I have other stuff that impairs me. Luckily I'm past most of the "impairs me (in MCOC, at least)" stuff, but I'm still very much disabled and will always support accommodations for various needs from people with other disabilities.
Plus, accommodations for disabled folks has a tendency to be helpful to other players as well. Even without being colorblind, I can see how it would be useful for people to be able to view which champs you can use a rank-up or awakening gem directly in the selector. Even if you can differentiate the colors, this kind of QOL change could be helpful for everyone.
Not that it necessarily have to be useful for everyone to be implemented, but I'm just saying. It can have positive knock-on effects.

That's an extreme example. What if, on the other hand, someone wants to take a mystic champ to R4 sig 200, and is deciding between Kushala, Shathra, Spiral, and WWBN? And what if one of those mystics will be ascendable soon and the others not ascendable for months or even years? And what if this person has limited resources and is a highly competitive PvP player?
I'm not saying you and everyone else needs to worry about this. I think you basically can spend a high amount and don't really play the game that much. But for other players, especially those with limited resources and highly competitive, this really sucks…

I wanna start by saying I don’t want anything for free or any exchanges and I’m not complaining I’m happy with what I got with the 3 to 4 rank up gems… however for somebody who doesn’t see every color in the spectrum it was difficult to make decisions. For some reason the 3 to 4 gem Nexus crystal when you hit the little i in the circle does not tell you what class it is so mutant & science look exactly the same to me and Tech & Mystic look exactly the same to me. Even after I chose them, it would not tell me what it was until I went to my stash and press it and press “view eligible champions” I know other crystals tell you exactly what it is before you choose it If you hit the little i in the circle ….in the future, could you please add a description of what classes it is for those of us who are color challenged pretty please.
