The ranks as they are shown are the total points above base that you get for the given rank, not the points you get for going to that rank. A 6* has a base score of 660 and is worth up to 830 points (170 additional) at rank 4, the max rank that counts. So they are worth 660 (R1), 680 (R2), 730 (R3) and 830 (R4), and not 660, 680, 750, 920 as I am guessing you are thinking. Getting 100 points on a 6* champ going from R3 to R4 is correct.
