    There's really no way to answer that question unless you end it with "best at what." Some are the best at AW defense. Some are the best at running LoL. Some are the best boss killers, some are the best sustainable champs at running very long map paths without dying. Some are the best power control, some are the best total damage output, some have the best general utility.

    Also, unless you are dueling a champ one on one, you are generally bringing a team of three or five into an event. Sometimes the best three champion team for a particular map doesn't actually contain any of the top individual champs judged separately because they work together well. When you are running AQ maps, you know exactly what the map will contain because it is basically the same every time. You can optimize your three champion team for what you expect you have to fight (depending on how your alliance assigns paths). But you don't necessarily know what you are going to see in AW, although you will learn to expect certain champs often. You need a team to be more flexible. Different monthly events and story quests have known content, but monthly events change from month to month and some have themes with certain challenges that offer advantages to certain kinds of champs. The best team for this month's master mode might not necessarily be the best team for next month's master mode or special event.

    In the end, it doesn't matter so much what is best, what matters is what's the best of what you currently have.

    IMO, you cant get much better than @DNA3000 's excellent rundown.
