Nah, a variant will help a ton. Sure, it is easy, but it has nice rewards and gives buffs to parts of your roster which is fun. They cant make permanent content every month. So ill take whatever we get with open arms no matter how easy it is.
It’s just not gonna fill the content void enough for me, it’s been too long since actual difficult content came out, variant occupies me for maybe 6-8 hours, even if I split it up it’s only that much game time, and to be honest rewards for them aren’t too appealing for me
Imagine thinking the game revolves around you because you are endgame. Variants are healthy for the game and give out good rewards for mid tier players (the majority).
Imagine saying endgame players can’t have good things just because you aren’t endgame

Even then if the rewards are good enough most endgame players will blitz through it in a week or so.
The rewards just need to reflect the effort. If it's the same rewards as v6 or act 7.1 (or on the same level), then the difficulty should remain the same too. They set that standard already. The majority of the player base (other than the best of the best) don't want harder difficulty for the same reward level.
But, If they up the rewards to a 50% t5cc selector instead of 25%, bring on the increased difficulty. Everything should scale accordingly; harder content should equal better rewards / same rewards should equal same difficulty of content.
Now, If summer of pain is going to be as hard as the dev diaries say, then the rewards should scale too. Give a full t5cc (and then some) nexus 6* and some goodies that are better than abyss rewards if it's really that big of a leap from abyss.
