Ms. Marvel Discussion [Titled edited for clarity]

I've been playing the game for a few years now. I spend at least an hour a day playing various content. with the pandemic and lockdown going on I have plenty of time in my hands. I became thronebreaker recently. I have a fairly sizeable roster and I enjoy my time playing. But sometimes something happens and I just snap. Yes, I will be complaining from this point on, so if you have a problem with that drop a disagree and close this tab.

Now, I don't normally complain because this is part of the game, pulling crappy champs and having to live with that. I have pulled yondu from 3 out of my 5 6* crystals and haven't complained a bit. I have multiple copies of Agent Venom, Taskmaster and so on. And I've had my fair share of 6* champs who became good after their buffs (Falcon, Terrax etc.) But I haven't complained because this is part of the game and these characters are at least somewhat useful. At least Kabam put an effort into designing these champs. There is some craft in these characters.

Now please look at Ms. Marvels ability set:

Three Lines of description. Three lines. There is no work here, there is nothing here. It's just a reskin of normal Captain marvel. Exactly the same character. Yes these are old champions and back then the game was different. Yet even when the 6* crystal first came out, they were outdated champions. Why add them in the first place? I'm not saying there shouldn't be bad champions in the crystals. But two of the same champion? You might say they will get a buff eventually or whatever. And not every champion has to be amazing. There have to be some bad champs as I said. But at least try to make them interesting. Both of these characters need more than an overhaul. But the sad thing is maybe the game doesn't need an overhaul of these two.

In the event that Kabam buffs these champs, I will definitely and gladly eat my words. But until then the case remains that, these two lazily made characters are popping out of crystals ruining someones day. I also would like to discuss with anyone who wants to talk about how to make these champs better.

TLDR; Ms. Marvel is a lazy made champion (granted she is an old champion but still) that never should have made her way into the 6* Basic pool.

They weren’t being lazy when they made her. The game just evolved over time. Same thing with a bunch of the old champions

Iron man and sim pretty much are same also its just at start of game they never evolved but maybe how they did netflix dd on buffing of changing him to not be like the og version same can happen to ms marvel as i prefer the ms marvel reskin of captain marvel more

They are older champs. You didn't need ability sets back then when most of these people were introduced. It was simple as punching the opponent, not getting hit and winning the game. The game has evolved since then. She served her purpose (albeit not too well) back then.

As I also said in my original post, I accept they are old champs. My complaint is basically adding them into the 6* basic pool before providing any buffs or anything. Besides I think antman is miles ahead of these champs

Mrs. Marvel and OG Captain Marvel had one of the highest attack values in the game. Some people even used them for Labyrinth I believe. Meanwhile, Ant-Man has no utility and hits softer than a pillow.

When 6-stars first came out, there wasn't any concept of regular of buffing champions. It happened irregularly and took months.

It always p*ssed me off that there are duplicate champs like

Ms. Marvel and Captain Marvel - as you said literally the same champions, jus reskinned

Iron-man and Superior Iron-man - these two I admit differ slightly in their numbers, but same sifuation: reskin and just change some numbers

I understand the game was different but I wonder what kinda employee had the stupid idea to create a copypaste champs. And it puzzles me even more that it actually got through in the game

Also quite frankly, I am sorry for the animator who made the champions - they all look good but imagine you create a unique model that is put onto the same core as other champ has

Techically speaking, all Symbiote champions (Sym Iron-Man included) has a higher crit rate than normal.

Ms. Marvel was released in January of 2015. This game was going on 2 months old then. This is literally how all characters were back then. It's not lazy, it's just how the game was made. Keeping it simple as to not over complicate a brand new game on the market.

Obviously the devs are super lazy since it's been nearly 7 years now since the game came out.

To add onto this, why call the devs lazy? How do you know it was their choice? Decisions like abilities generally come from the creative director and champion designers. This was the initial direction of the game. There are other champs that didn't even have a SP3 description.

His qualm is not that she is ****, we all know she is. His qualm is that she was added to the 6* pool along with OG CM. Kabam spared us by not diluting the 5* pool with this trash, but is diluting the 6* pool. That is what the OP is saying, if it wasnt clear.

That's one of their points, not the only point. You may not like who is in the 6* pool but Kabam doesn't segregate their champions by tier levels like the community does. If it were up to us, there'd only be like 30 champions in any of the basic pools from 5* to 6*'s. Collecting champs is a main part of this game.

Don’t worry OP, time is linear for me too. I also perceive that a pure re-skin was added to the 6* pool years after she was originally created.

That's the line anyway. But whenever an specific crystal offer comes up, its not the "duds" in the thumbnail. It's the "god tier" champs in the thumbnail to tease you to buy the offer.

People actually pay attention to those rotating pictures? That's like saying the reel is anything but entertainment.

Plus if you look at all the crystals in the store right now, the top prizes are just the featured champs. For everything else it looks as if the most recent additions to the crystals are cycling through as top prizes.

We can probably agree doom is good and diablo is bad but it would be impossible for all of us to decide where a certain champion falls on that broad spectrum. Which is irrelevant anyway because Kabam is not going admit one champion is better than other.

However, even Kabam admits some champions are outdated and that is the real point here. Seriously just look at that mrs marvel description.
She doesn't belong to this game at the moment and Kabam knows it yet, they are still in 5* 6*pools.

I sincerely thank and appreciate Kabam for starting this buffing previous champions project.
Not all buffs need to make a champion a god tier either, but more 2021 appropriate.
So, perhaps a chronological order to these reworks could be a better approach. (I'm saying this as someone who is enjoying some of these recent updates e.g falcon).
And this might be a crazy ask but, say that you are working on these champions (i mean outdated not meme tier) and while you are on it, remove it from pools. Then you can sell us once they are beyond god tier.

A lot of the early champions are samey, Punisher and Winter Soldier were near identical in moves and so on and the changes made to differentiate them were some of the first big do-overs of champions. When Kabam was starting out, they had a very small staff and limited time/budgets etc. As the game grew, so did the staff and then so did the complexity of the characters and moves away from copy-paste characters that were done to try to give variety to the early roster. SIM/IM, Cap/CapWW2, the two Daredevils, the two Cyclops, the two Magnetos, Spidey Classic and Symbiote, the first two Visions were all of a time. It's why there's a lot of duplication of win animations, heavies, special 1s and 2s and even body types in the earliest champions.

You misunderstood me. Whenever a mutant bundle comes up in the unit store, its Archangel, Namor or some of the "god tier" champs and not Nightcrawler and Deadpool x force. Even now, the cavalier tech bundle has ghost and dark hawk and not iron patriot and iron man. They are not random either, try checking them for some time and you will notice the pattern.

I mean. Outside of Nebula, Hulk, Spiderman and Deadpool are the most commonly know Marvel heroes and are likely to draw eyes to the app.

You are just being intentionally obtuse now. There is a difference between someone picking the game for the first time and someone who has played a lot and knows which character will benefit the roster more. If I was a newbie, I would look at spidey and go for the game, and then find out that he actually is really bad to get. If I was buying a offer from the store, if the crystal is advertised with Iron man in the thumbnail, would I pick him? Doubtful.

Well, to be honest I don't buy them at all. What I mean is the packaging is important. It is the reason that the cosmic bundle has CGR and Corvus, tech bundle has Ghost and Warlock. it does not matter what the offer inside is, if you can't even get people to look at it. You honestly are telling me that the pictures on the offers are random and not the champs Kabam knows will get the most views and clicks?

I mean I don't even know what's on each one. All I know is that it's champions of that class plus the resources that come with it. Again, you're the first person that's saying that would stop you from buying an offer. If I remember correctly, Human Torch and YJ are on the science one. But I don't 100% remember.
