Honest discussion about arenas….

So I saw today someone in my alliance missed with 184 MILLION and came in 140th place.

Arenas are officially broken. There are a multitude of reasons why they are broken - mercs running the account 24 hours, arena bots, and a cutoff of 100 (for a game thousands and thousands of people play).

Clearly mercs are never going away. Arena bots seemingly can’t be detected.

That leaves the 3rd option - Expand the damn cutoffs. Top 100 is completely outdated and it should be more like top 500 at this point in the game.

You are killing an entire game mode because no one feels they can achieve that reward without cheating in the game.

This can’t be what Kabam wants it’s game devolving into when bots and mercs rule an entire game mode.

Arenas have been broken for a long time now. And will continue to be as long as the option to pay your way with refreshes is there

If they keep allowing MERCS they need to expand the rewards. 200m cutoff is absolutely insane and unhealthy for the game.

Lets be realistice for two things:
Arena is broken but the fix must be that way so kabam dont destroy cavs crystal, because if its top 500 nobody will take cavs and will go for arena.
That can be fixed with two ways:
1. Make arena grind for champ strictly without vpn and no the ability to change country through grinding: i dont believe someone can score 200mils while also travelling, 200 mills needs no sleep three days.
2. Make better the cavs crystals drop rates: if guys that pay have a fair chance for a 6* at around 250-300 dollars then why pay for arena (refreshes etc, etc). That will leave more space to free to play players to have an opportunity for grind. Now 50 cavs (that cost 500$) dont even guaranteed the 5* champ, so its better for a player that whalling to refresh that money so the champ is kind of guaranteed.

People want to get new champs and they have 2 ways:
1. Buy featured cavs or
2. Play arenas.

Many people want same featured champs and so they play arenas. Now it depends on who wants it most?
My point is if you are not getting it, then be ok that someone else worked harder than you..
Instead of pointing to mercs or bots or whatever...
Arenas are open for all.

Still seems like a temporary fix if you ask me. Something like taking away refreshes can actually be a potential answer, though I’m sure mercs will find a way around that as well.

I don’t think I’ll ever grind for a champ, but I do wish they would address arena issues more frequently.

Mercs n bots would easily win without refreshes. They run 24/7 with no refreshing so only way to compete is to refresh top teams. Arenas are beyond broken at this point and Kabam ignores it. Free to play have no chance to win a 6* even if they grind all day and night. Plus crystal drop rates are still way to low.

You just said 140 players were willing to put up 184 million points to attempt to get top 100. Even more people must have been willing to put up somewhat less but still a ton of points. Even if a number of them were either mercs or bots, that's still a lot more than no one.

The bots are bad news, certainly, but there's absolutely no evidence that players are giving up on shooting for top 100. In fact the more people complain about score escalation, the more they prove beyond any shadow of a doubt that there are still far more players willing to shoot for top 100 than there are spots in the top 100.

The bots alone cannot escalate scores, because they don't take up all the spots. Regular human players are themselves pushing harder and higher for high value champs. If people were giving up on the arena because no one thought they could get top 100 without cheating, then scores would drop, not rise, and the leaderboard would be full of bots. Not full of bots like there's too many, but literally all 100 spots would be bots. As long as humans are on the leaderboard, it proves humans are willing to push that hard.

I wish it was, because then I would be getting all the rewards. In fact, I've stopped trying to argue it is not dead for a while now, because the more people think it is dead, the better for me.

However, in spite of all the complaining to the contrary, the actual arena grinders continue to grind. They complain, they point out the flaws and problems, they try to highlight the cheating that does go on, but they continue to grind nonetheless. If there was a flee from the arenas, I still track scoring, and I would know.

I haven't hit top milestones in a single arena since they changed... I use to be a big arena grinder too.

Do you track the overall number of people within each arena (didn’t think you could see that?) or just the cutoffs? Just because the cut-offs are rising doesn’t mean the same amount of people (or more) are attempting the grind. The 2 aren’t mutually exclusive.

I agree with that actually. Kabam stated in the past they wanted to make QoL adjustments. Arena needs an ovehaul already. Too much cheating and too much turning a blind eye.

As someone who grinded 225mil and got knull, even I can admit that something needs to be done about the arena scores. I targeted 225mil from the start because I wanted to be extremely safe with little to no chance of missing, problem of itself I felt that was needed to be “safe” and if I wasn’t being extremely cautious likely would have only targeted 190mil and missed. Top 100 is an extremely small pool which is really competitive and only supports rapidly inflating scores, there is always going to be that many people willing to push higher than the previous cutoff, increasing the cutoff would help this, especially if they made it something like top 1%. I can also say that yeah it’s not really healthy I averaged 4hrs of sleep a day which sure isn’t the worst but was playing almost non stop the rest of the time. It’s also pricey units wise, cost me 17k units but I had them saved up from grinding milestones, so didn’t cost me any actual money. And lastly as someone who got the champ it hurts to see mercs and bots getting him too, almost like it minimizes my efforts and what I did to get him, so I can only imagine what it’s like for those who also put up insane scores and lost out to cheaters.

I agree that there's probably cheaters in the top 100 but how does it exactly work?

I suspect they also spend units to get that rank?
They play/auto play the arenas constantly and spend real money to get there?

Either if those reasons probably benefits the sellers of the said units, I suppose that's why it's in the game.

I like this idea, constantly escalating difficulty would make it more of skill challenge too

There are different solutions to avoid the bots. There is a game called Heroes of Camelot and they have this timed “online verification” where the human are required to press a specific spot while being rewarded for that. The idea behind this online verification is to avoid bot and mercenary to make the arena in that mentioned game more fair and competitive. If it was an bot playing the arena and a timed Online Verification decided to pop up then the game will deem it as an bot and ban that player’s account for some time all because the bot is not able to press that specific spot the verification has asked you to press.

So in a way what I meant to say that the idea should be implemented the same in mcoc arena, but something different that kabam can work with.
