7 days allows someone to bring in alts and gift a bunch of items, get alliance points and then they can bring their main in and continue gifting. Therefore exploiting the event.
You may think a blasé attitude to cheating is acceptable, but I (and likely a lot of the player-base) vehemently disagree. “There will be cheaters and scammers no matter what Kabam do” is the worst reasoning to do less. The logic, or lack thereof, is astounding.
“People will die from heart attacks no matter what health services do to stop it, so why do anything”.
The point is to reduce, and if possible prevent. But if some still occur, as is likely, you don’t just give up. I’m surprised I’m having to explain this, and I really hope you’re not being serious. But that’s where I’m going to leave this conversation, I hope you reflect on it.
People are so bent out of shape over this cause they want to jump into an alliance full of whales, get those rewards, then go back to their original alliance.
So it makes me wonder...if the "gifting" alliance is full of whales, why wouldn't you just stay in that alliance year round? Presumably you trust the other 29 people enough to not take your GGCs without returning the favor, so why wouldn't you trust them enough to move in AQ/AW?
Perhaps there's something I'm missing, but I damn sure wouldn't welcome someone back into my alliance if they wanted to bail during gifting just to join some whales, meanwhile making it difficult for the remainder of us to run our typical AQ content.
So let the disagrees rain down on me, but we all know gifting is coming, so personally, I would have locked down alliance eligibility to November 1st.

We don’t know people’s reasons for leaving. I agree that people jumping alliance just for gifting is a bad idea, but we don’t know what the reason is.
If you think about it, people change alliances every week of the year. After AQ, after AW, or whatever. But they don’t post about it on the forum because why would they? There’s no huge alliance event on that clashes with those two. So hypothetically, say that the exact same amount of players were switching alliances every week of the year, but this week is different because gifting event 14 day buffer *does* clash, so that’s why we get people coming to the forum and complaining on it.
People are just assuming that anyone who posts about leaving an alliance at the moment is glory hunting, and while it may be true for some, people leave alliances all the time
By no means am I saying there aren't some that leave an alliance for legitimate reasons that have nothing to do with gifting, but even to them, if they care about the rewards, I'd suggest they grind it out once they hit the "lock down" period.
As you said, they had to do something to curb the unethical behavior during gifting, and I just personally think they should have gone further, cause I'd say with a high degree of confidence that the people complaining about it here are those that want to bend the rules.
I frankly have no remorse for them, cause there's no legitimate reason to be concerned about it during gifting besides the goal of artificially inflating alliance rewards, which artificially deflates my, and the vast majority, of other alliances' rewards.
Kabam just can't win.
