They probably lost all the progression and can’t bring it back yet. Otherwise, players that completed it last year and this year will have a 3rd chance of getting rewards again.
Confused by your wording, but we really haven’t gotten any word from it after the initial takedown. Would be nice to have an inkling of timing/plans/etc.

For those whose gauntlet was reset , they might even get 4th chance. Or like last time gauntlet will return after a year or so and by that time rewards will be much less relevant so no one will complain that some players got extra rewards.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this happened
I'd take a 3rd and 4th then wait for Carina's Volume 3 that will highly likely include Grandmaster's Gauntlet.
They will try and avoid such a 3rd and 4th extra-dipping of rewards. Potentially by making rewards into a Solo Objective (and making that objective subject to whether you’ve done it already in past), instead of just as standard Completion Rewards again (which caused initial double-dipping).
Wait...did people that double-dipped get to keep the rewards?
I can guarantee you that if they had been removed before now, you would have heard an uproar on the forums. Lack of uproar seems to indicate that they have kept them.
“Our priority is bringing back the mode in a way that provides the same rewards access to all Summoners…. we would assign a Solo Objective to players who have claimed rewards fewer than X times and completing the objective would allow you to claim the rewards.”
So if this is the method they go with, is X gonna be 3? Because some may have done it once originally, once when it came back the first time, and once when it bugged out and reset.
So anyone who has done it 2 times will be able to get the objective? But someone who has done it 3 times wouldn’t. That’s my assumption, and seems the fairest.

I would think “X” should be whatever is the max number of times currently allowed—if someone went nuts and did it 8 times, I would hope the team docked that player down to a reasonable number of runs. Otherwise, just open it up and let it be run infinitely.
Your guess is the same as mine @BitterSteel —three seems like a fair number absent any big outliers. It’s also what I would imagine the current max number of runs is likely to be.

This appears to be the current state. I’m curious what “X” times will be if the team pursues this fix.
