Why so many mid month updates

Seems like every months now there's a mid month update I don't know anything about, today it cost us a death in war because mid fight the guy disconnected and got kicked to a must update screen. This is getting ridiculous happening almost every month.

I'm surprised that this was an update that kicked people out of the game. It apparently only has to do with Relics. Even the major Monthly update isn't required once it's released.

Yeah, I think your ally mate lied to cover up a death. LOL.

The update has something to do with relics, per the post in News & Announcements.

In the years of playing this game though, I've never had the mere presence of an update in the store ever cause a disconnect, or force me to update in that very moment.

A guy in my alliance said that he was booted from the game as well. Not that we were affected but he has no reason to lie.

Those who thought they were kicked out of game due to the Update, probably just had an ever-too-often crash that kicked them out of the game in general. Connection issue, memory leak finally caught up with them after being in game for too many fights beforehand, etc.

Yes, might have been because of extra load on servers from lot of people downloading the new update (others could clarify whether updates actually reside on Kabam servers, or if all the App Stores actually pull new updates from Google/Apple servers instead ??)

And I doubt it is already listed as a Mandatory Update (my Store hadn’t even refreshed itself to show there was an update available, had to directly go to that App in the store to see the Update and get it).
Maybe they had Auto-Update turned on, and maybe their Store had indeed refreshed then, and started to download it in background, thus making it not available to re-enter game until update was finished.

I can confirm that I had a disconnect issue, and then the game said I had to download the update to continue. It took me to the App Store from there. This is on my iPhone.

This feels like a straightforward case of stupid or liar.

Earlier when I went to log in, I immediately got a pop-up screen telling me that I had to update in order to do anything and so I did now there's a chance that mid-fight he could have been kicked out but we would have heard more people making that same claim rather than this thread merely asking why there was a mid month update to begin with.

So as others mentioned, there's probably more to this story.

Ok, looks like I was wrong about it not being a Required Update so soon (later in same day as became available).
Just when I manually did it earlier it was not because of a pop up “required” at that time yet.
But, yes, last mid-month I think the Required was rather short notice as well (much shorter than the 2-3 days grace for normal monthly updates).

I would still contend though that the game does not go out and forcibly Disconnect you if you happen to actually be inside the game at that time.

The Update is normal. Is long Time.
Fist Update 1,7 Gb and 14 day later second Update 1,7 Gb.

Limit 4 Gb for Download.

My issue with this was that it didn't appear in my almost daily list of updates available for apps before I left home and my WiFi connection. A few hours later when I went to go back into the game to make some moves but more importantly to claim/use overflow items the game wouldn't let me in and said I had to update.

I thought I would just have to sacrifice a little bit of cellular data (yes I still don't have unlimited data because most of the time I am around a WiFi connection) to get back in but then it said it was something like a 1.2 GB update. I wasn't able to get back to a WiFi connection until at least 9 hours later and at that point I had lost a lot of items I couldn't claim.

I don't think it is fair to require an update (especially a large one) to open the game without the app appearing in the available updates screen for at least a day or two first. I don't know how the app store/phones work in terms of when the updates appear in your list and if it is the same for everyone or these updates appear at different times for different people on different devices but if there is any relatively consistent time frame for everyone or it is something Kabam can be informed of then I think they should allow more time before preventing you from opening the game.

I understand the occasional emergency update that can't be avoided to fix something critically important but this didn't seem to fall in that category.
