Battlegrounds Medal System

Sometimes I get 1 medal for winning a match, sometimes I get 2. Am I missing something or is there a bug somewhere?

It differs by the tier you’re in. I believe it changes from 2 medals to 1 in plat or diamond. You will also only earn 1 in lower tiers when you’re on the verge of promoting to the next tier. If you have 2 medals and need a total of 3 to go up, you will get 1 from a win instead of 2, so you start the next tier at zero.

I went back and found that in an old announcement, but I'm still in Gold so it shouldn't affect me

See my edit with additional info, I think that’s what’s happening.

You get one per Win in Gold 1 because you're playing to enter Plat 3.

The most recent win I had just been promoted to Gold 1 and didn't have any medals, so there's no reason to only get one.

Yeah, you are basically playing in Platin now and all the Gold rewards should show as claimed.

You get one because you've already achieved Gold 1. You earn one per Win in Platinum, and you're playing to enter Plat 3, just like Vibranium 2 is the last Tier before the GC because technically Vib 1 is the GC.

Is there anything that lays this out, because the only thing I can find is this?

This has been a long-standing semantic ambiguity in Battlegrounds, but according to the game we don't "enter" tiers, we achieve them. So when the game says "Gold 1" that's not the tier we are in, that is the last tier we achieved. The trophies exist in a limbo of not technically being in any particular tier, but between tiers.

But the easiest and most understandable way I can think of to describe what is going on is to describe the tier the game displays as the tier you last completed, and the current trophies you are working on as the tier you're currently "in" or "traversing." So someone that has "achieved" Gold 1 is technically now in the Platinum 3 track, but just haven't achieved the Platinum 3 finish line yet.

Ok, that makes sense. But is there a newer announcement about scoring because the only one I could find says the scoring doesn't change until Diamond.

Additional tiers were added in season 10 and medals requirement changes as well.
