He's a underdog on attack too, don't overlook that.

He can spam specials back to back against buff heavy champs, that's so satisfying

No idea why so many people said "YeSssS"
When r3 hams, photons, Titania, Kate and other burst/debuff heavy heroes exists who can just burst him in bubbles.

I think we all did this dance already when 7* were first released and some people said, "uhh 7* antman will be good uhh"
    Come on.

He's just flavour of the month who have no defence mechanism other than, "you can't crit me lol lol"

I mean, If we go by that, I don't consider any mystic to be a good defender, except mephisto and maybe kindred (but the said science champs can nuke kindred in 30 sec as well).

How important is his dupe? I’m so bored of seeing the same defenders in BG that I want to take mine up. Just not sure if I should awaken him with the selector or go for a new P99 instead.

I mean it’s not competing with the top of the litter like Serpent or Bullseye, but Man-thing is serviceable. Its crit blocking may be its main or “only” real line of defense but you’re acting like that’s not worth anything when it’s a pretty good stalling tool, especially alongside it’s King Groot-tier health pool (for reference, my r2 Man-thing has more health than my r3 Gorr and only slightly less than my r3 Bullseye). Lots of champs are reliant on those “big yellow numbers” to close out fights as fast as they want to, especially in metas that give Man-thing lots of armor or resistances (see the current GC meta). The contact nullify is also a big problem for any champ reliant on buffs, which is more than just cosmics. Man-thing’s just not a general staller, it’s a targeted one and that still has value. Like captain_rogers said, it can be blown up in 30 seconds but if the opponent doesn’t pull a good counter it can just as easily burn the timer.

Also it’s a funny pseudo-Bullseye answer bc it has bleed immunity and prevents bonus crit damage. It’s probably the single best champ at eating Bullseye’s sp1s to the face except the more cheesy Sinister. Arguably not worth using against him anyways since the damage isn’t great but if you’re ever pressed into a bad spot Man-thing can do okay.

He is no Sasquatch level defender but for someone with a smaller roster and/or someone looking for more Crit me With Your Best Shot defenders hes a good rankup

Photon is crit reliant, and Kate will inevitably take some poison damage since he will be spamming sp1s left and right. He doesn't have as many counters as you think and reducing the bonus damage from crits by 100% does way more than you think.

I have a r2 manthing and he either gets nuked in 35 seconds or stalls the entire fight.

He has huge base armor and resistances, and crit hits don't deal additional damage against him, so Raw damage champs struggle a lot against him. On the other hand, burst and dot champs can ignore his abilities.

He also nullifies your buffs and applies poisons/armor breaks, So you need someone to counter his nullify or poison or you'll take damage (there are plenty of champs who are nullify/poison resistant though).

Among the top science champs, hulk, red guardian, photon, silk will struggle against him. Titania can nuke if the AI is fixed, as she isn't crit reliant. Ham and scorp can nuke easily. Human torch can nuke but he may take some damage.

I'll say r2 him but I wouldn't r3 him over other nystic powerhouses.

Just want to add to this that if he is r3 Scorpion and Torch are no longer viable for him, Scorpion would be at the very least a minute long fight which is very long and a perfectly beatable score, and Torch would just take a ton of poison damage before he kills him. Scorpion was the main reason Man-Thing fell off, if you r3 Man-Thing that problem goes away completely.

Dupe isnt needed on manthing at all.

He is a really good staller, i have an r6 manthing who is underrated on attack too.
