These Realm events prove just how selfish our player base is

I knew this realm event was going to be a dumpster fire. Kabam should’ve buffed the rewards. Instead they removed the solo event and added a realm event and now people that actually play BGs are going to be penalized and get less rewards than they otherwise would. If Kabam doesn’t give everyone who contributed the points that milestone, this will be the biggest L of the year IMO.

And to make it worse there are already Ls in this year already, it can’t get worse can’t it?

My issue is with the people who are deliberately not doing it as a form of protest against the Realm event when they normally would have done it.

Where are you getting this data that people who previously played BG are not playing deliberately this season as a form of protest?

We'll need to see how much players will play in the circuit but considering they still haven't buffed the circuit rewards there isn't much motivation to push much there. I still don't understand why the circuit rewards only have a small amount of 7 star shards and some bg tokens and have been the same for so long

    U shouldn't be talking u aren't even in GC 🤷
People play a game for effort vs reward if it doesn't worth the effort people won't do.

If I had a youtube channel - I would do that to get content + some donation + new subscriber 🤷.

Well... I said already in some other post. I''m playing more than ever, and I'm enjoying it a lot.
The Realm Event took completely out the "pressure of winning" and the fear or losing and just wasting time and marks... Because now you can lose and you are not only getting points in the event, someone else is getting them as well.
  • Asher1_1Asher1_1 Member Posts: 655 ★★★

This was exactly as i predicted.. and same thing will happen in the BG event.
Too many people will sit back and let the whales do all the work.. where that is just not even possible.
"Whales" will not want to spend to benefit everybody else either... ending the event at 70% at best.

1 week score was 200mil ,3 weeks left
---half people won't play after reaching GC(as there
    decks aren't good enough)
--- some are playing for deathless piece + banquet ticket only
--- if we make it to 1 billion that's just 2/3 that will be 66% 🤷🤷 not even 70% 😂😂

The milestones past one billion are clearly stretch goals. If they added milestones out to ten billion would you say reaching a billion was only getting to 10%? What if they added milestones to a hundred billion.

What if they just said "if the player base reaches a milestone the game will add more automatically" so there are now infinite milestones. Where are we now? Zero?

I can understand people not wanting to play BGs. It can be one of the most frustrating game modes where both your roster and skill need to be very good in order to have an overall enjoyable experience. To expect people to grind something that can be miserable just so you can get your rewards is pretty crazy. BGs is also a time sink that not everyone has available. As something with a young kid, it’s hard to fine a long block of time to grind away uninterrupted.

With that said I am doing my part trying to battle through, but it’s not all that enjoyable. I feel kinda forced to play it at this point and that’s not a feeling I enjoy having in a game. If it wasn’t for the deathless piece, I wouldn’t push more than I felt comfortable doing. And all of this work for a Titan crystal that has a junk pool of champs I either already have and do not want outside of like 2-3 characters. If I get a 3rd Silver Sable at the end of this, I’ll be sick lol

I love how blatantly people have misinterpreted this post, or maybe I just said it really badly, or I should take my wife's advice and stop being so cynical

Let's see what doing battlegrounds gets you this season...
    Realm rewards
    Banquet tickets
Points in alliance events which allow progression in the events and crystal shards
    BG tier rewards
    Tokens for store

That's quite a lot in my book.

Plus you get better at the game, if your take the time to learn.

I’m just doing my one match every 48 hours for the ticket and i’m fine with anyone doing the same or less,..or not at all ( if they wish).
    Because battlegrounds isn’t for everyone,
    1. It is very time consuming
    2. Although i wouldn’t call it boring i wouldn’t call it exciting either,..(it’s okay).
    3. I can think of many better ways to spend my valuable time,..(in game and out).

I had a hard stance against the realm event before Kabam did their little point injection today, they know they are setting the bar high for the points and I think it’s a way of seeing how much it drives engagement.

I’m more motivated now though to actually grind some GC rather than reach uru and camp there for 2 weeks, partially also because of the alliance events that are running now such as that D.U.M.B.A.S.S. one

For some. But the participation levels are actually very high across the board, even in down seasons, so that's not true for a large percentage of the game population.

Let's estimate how popular Battlegrounds is. My best guess at the moment is that there are about 750k players playing the game actively. You need to be Uncollected or higher to participate in Battlegrounds, let's say there are about 500k players above UC.

I've seen anything from 200k to over 260k players show up on the solo bg leaderboard. There have to be at least that many players playing at least one match. That's over half the players qualified to play. If we assume that the bottom third are ultra casual players playing just a few matches, that's still over 175k players playing out of 500k players capable of playing, a participation rate of about 35%.

Something between 35% and 50% of all players that are allowed to play BGs plays BGs. I suspect that makes BG potentially one of the most popular activities in the game. I don't think that many players actively participate in war. I don't think that many players do incursions. There's definitely not that many arena grinders. Those numbers probably make BG competitive with monthly EQ.

These are not all top tier players. They aren't all Paragons and Valiants. They are definitely not the top skilled players. This is a big chunk of all players at or above Uncollected: the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Yes, I'm sure some of those players play it grudgingly. But they play it.and you can say that about all game modes. They are still choosing to play BG over other things.

There's a belief among many that BG is comprised of a chunk of hard core players and a larger majority of extremely casual if at all players. But I think that's completely false. I think the vast majority of players are not the hard core players nor are they the grudging haters. The vast majority are the players that play BG the way most players play everything: moderately. And the scoring data supports this: scoring is very spiky, and is particularly high around the time periods when BG objectives reset. These are moderate players that aren't grinding, but neither are they only playing one or two matches a season. They are trying to collect milestones, and while they are they outscore everyone else for a few hours. It takes a substantial number of matches to do that for most players, especially the very low strength players you're concerned about.

Had posted this before but I'll put it out there again, I am a Valiant with an average roster/ skill. I reached GC on the third day and currently on 5200 pts and 8000 EM. If there is no increase in EM cap,I'll probably end up wasting almost all the milestone EM's.
If I can do this playing normally, I am sure guys can too!

I've just passed the 5k minimum and I won't lie, it was a massive slog for me. My roster didn't really hold up in the latter brackets, I'm currently Diamond 1 and believe me I really wanted to just say fxxk it but I just wanted the minimum PTS needed. In the end the only times I was winning was when someone forfeited. It was demoralising. I very rarely do BG, I'll just take part now every time a banquet ticket is on the line.

For Relm Events, they need to add better top rewards with much higher minimums to unlock. That way those who contribute more to the events are properly incentivised and rewarded for their efforts. As it is now, you can just put up the bare minimum of 1000 crystals or 5000 BG points and get exactly the same as those putting up way more points.

Which is why rewards should ne progression based. The milestomes past 1B are stretch rewards... Why are Valiant players tied to 10 milestomes full of stuff we are not interested and then hope for a stretch?

PantherusNZ when he realises not everyone treats this game like a job/second life just because he does. People have lives (shocking, I know). Get over it. I have already put up 2k points, and I'll be hitting 5k points for sure. But I know that we might not reach the final milestone and that's okay because not everyone can spend time on this game

Lol, I work full time and have 2 kids. I play this game very casually and am in a retired alliance because I long ago got sick of the grind. I stopped playing twice for a year or so at a time. What a stupid assumption.

People are busy, don't like battlegrounds, don't have time, don't have the roster, just don't want to... All entirely valid.

I'll spell it out again for people like you for whom reading comprehension is severely lacking.

The issue is people who normally play BGs, saw the realm event, and decided "screw this, I'm not helping out because I can't see how it benefits me enough"

That's a completely separate issue from the one I was responding to. The question of whether rewards should be progression tiered or not is a way more complex issue than the question of whether a milestone is a stretch goal or a targeted goal.

Its really not, you said the rewards past the Titan Crystal are a stretch, they are a stretch because a lot of lower progression players don't have an incentive to play past 5k, which also makes other players to not have an incentive because they already know the numbers are a stretch. 1K or 5K Titan shards lose value for an UC or Cav, what is their incentive at all? Grab a few shards to open a crystal in 5 months if not more?...
The Titan Crystal should be a UC, Cav or even TB stretch and the shards a Paragon and Valiant stretch.

The game forces people to join alliances, and it forces itself to be multiplayer. The realm events is a new -cheap- way to that, same pushy direction. Simple as that.

I think the BG realm event is great. Revived an alt which had 9K elder marks just for this month. That's close to 5K additional points, which wasn't a part of any of the previous seasons.
