EQ 2.2 Mysterio - how a fight shouldn't be designed

KerneasKerneas Member Posts: 3,845 ★★★★★
I feel like this Mysterio is prime example of what I hate in terms of fight design. I want to use this thread to write down my feedback.

So why is this fight bad in my opinion? It is combination of the following:
- poison (you need immune champ or science)
- if you bring science as a counter, you will have to dex a lot and then deal with counterstrike
- counterstrike makes all hits unblockable so you have to slow down and play careful
- as with every Mysterio, you have to wait after every SP1/SP2 until his gases expire (unless you can bypass the miss on SP2)
- this Mysterio gets a bar of power everytime you get a 1st bar. Which makes him throw SP2s or SP1s super often. Yaay, more waiting time
- you gotta also keep the Falter node in mind, which means a further slowdown in the fight's pace

So in summary:
Is it a hard fight? NO. There are quite a few options and the healthpool isn't too big.

What is so bad? The mindnumbing slowness of the otherwise-okay fight. Having to wait all the time isn't fun, at all. The fight is boring, irritating piece of badly designed content. There is no challenge, there is no fun, there is only waiting to get a window for couple hits before you have to stand there and watch like an idiot again. I sincerely hope we won't be seeing such way of designing fights more often, because this turns a fun, challenging fighting game into a boring chore

Agree with the OP. Hulkling made short work of mysterio but it was an irritating node/defender combination without making it challenging.

RHulk worked perfectly fine for me.

Seems like Kabam is trying to make this a more unique and memorable fight, probably hoping for more engagement during mind numbing EQ grinds. It worked.

It was fun going in mostly blind and wondering what was going on and then figuring it out. One fight in an entire quest line should have a challenge to overcome and it should almost always be a boss.

    Hulking wrecks him

    Make older champ fights harder.
Make newly launched champs fights instructive and informative.
That's what I liked about this months bosses.

Players are used to old champs, so they know how to work it. Putting harder nodes on it make sense.

    While,
The most common practice is putting absurd and completely pointless nodes on New bosses. Idk why. I would want to learn to fight against a new champ... But instead of fighting the new champ and their abilities, we have to work on random BS nodes.
Recently a pointless mindless node was on Future Antman, Size matter + glance. We couldn't even test what champs would have worked on him.

I second this. This month was much better
the mysterio fight, i found to be engaging and fun. Not just a smash smash smash fight. It was challengign and needed changes to gameplay.

I used Sorcerer Supreme and spammed her sp1 cause it"s an energy attack so no poison. I just wait for the power to rise while parrying and mystic dispersion helps. She deals with most of the annoying issues. Kingpin was my backup cause willpower and Rage. And then Herc if I needed him....

Used r4 Hercules on the first run and bulldozed the fight.
Had brought r3 Hulkling in team and used him in next runs. He worked great and did the fight relative fast.
But I will agree that the fight wasn’t hard, just not fun and should be slow and annoying without a proper counter.

I really like when they make interesting fights, I surely don't wanna smash through everything easily. But there is a difficulty on EoP style, that requires strategy, good counter and actual brain usage and then there is this Mysterio who is just a boring fight IMHO. And that is my whole point: I like a fight that is difficult and requires skill. But this Mysterio is neither

Iwcap, parry heavy with skill and cosmic (and why not a tech) teammates. Easy but it was a stupid combination, no doubt.

Stupid because....why? There's about 15 different counters listed in this thread. I solo'd every time with my RHulk and basically fought normally. Only thing to pay attention to was the falter.

There have been many dumb fights in this game (ice phoenix I'm looking at you) but this isn't one of them.

You just triggered my PTSD, that fight was so annoying, I remember having to use a r3 4* Agent Venom and just hoped I purified 🤣

I only had star lord lol. I revived my way through. I'll never forget that fight.

It’s only one fight yes, except you have to fight him like five times to fully explore.
Maybe that little bit of annoyance each fight built up within and became fristration.

I ended up parry-heavy chain using mr.fantastic and his pre-fight abilities lol

Scorpion is an insane option. SP1 will inflict stings AND a taunt, so no worry about power gain. Also, you don't necessarily have to go to SP2. My scorpion demolished him. He can be poison immune and has the evade charge, so you might be able to evade. If you bait the attacks since he's unblockable, you can charge the heavy and inflict e longer. Not bad if you got him
