Would you like a "phase" champ to be playable?

GhostboytjieGhostboytjie Member Posts: 2,733 ★★★★★
Basicly we have :
Collector
The champion
Grandmaster
Scytalis
Bahamet
Thanos infinity stones

Would you like to be able to play a character with phases? Where they have each % of hp a phase which makes them stronger. Similar to where nick LMD lets you play 30% hp rest of quest where he is strong.

Each phase could have a prefight? If you choose phase 4 you start with the corrosponding hp % say 25% and you can never pick phase 1-3 again UNLESS you heal your champs above the % needed.

For defense I think this could be a nice challenge fighting more "phase" based champs.

Each phase can give them more abilities/more utilities/more damage etc. The duped ability should increase the potency of each phases but the overall phases must be in the kit itself.

Like the idea? Anyone is against it?

@Terra they dont neccesary have to take damage specific ways per phase. I don't mean design them with challenges to do to take down each phase. But rather each phase makes the champ stronger in the sense of abilities/damage/defense

Both collector and gm could be worked to fit the cosmic class and maestro as science but there the only 3 i see playable maybe one day we also could get carina along with the other elders as i personally would enjoy getting the elders

Honestly, I see Maestro as the only "phases" champ that could potentially be playable. His phases aren't that overpowered, and with a few tweaks to his abilities, he could be at least partially implemented into the game.

Last x% of Iron Patriot, hulkbuster or warmachine.

    First 15(?) Sec. With Mephisto.

    Black Panther civilwar!!

It's Not that extended like Bossfights, but there.

It’d be cool as a side event, like Steve. I don’t think it would work for permanent content.

Given how much cheat death there are in those champs to tank SP3s and either have it capped at 1% or at worst go to next phase... not going to happen in any form resembling what there is.

One thing I could see however is an option to "pick your AW boss" from that list, and have say the Grand Master as your AW boss... but fights would still need to be doable within the timers... so I'd still expect at least the health pool to go down.

Would be a balancing nightmare. They'd have to be restricted from usage in war. Plus, some of those champions would need retweaks since they can only take damage through specific ways, essentially making them immortal in quests.

Although, I'm unsure of why Maestro hasn't been released yet, since both the earlier bosses of the game have been, ie Thanos and Kang.

We did sort of get maestro though. Overseer is just a younger version.

I wouldn't mind to see playable versions of Scytalis and Bahamut simply because both of their designs are awesome, but it would have to be like Champion where their abilities as bosses are very different from their playable versions. I don't see a reason for Kabam to release them in their "boss phase state". Not only would that be terribly unbalanced since they aren't designed to be equal to the rest of the champions in our roster, I also don't think that there would be a single reason to not play them in their last 10% health phase (or whatever their respective phases are). Sure, you get a bit more health, but if you don't get hit, that doesn't matter. Since a lot of those are exceptionally difficult to kill in the last phase anyway, there'd be even less of a reason not to be there.

One thing I will say, since someone jokingly said that they'd want them as 2*s, is that it would be really cool to get something like a 2* version as a little reward when you've beaten them enough times. So maybe when you've explored 8.2, you get a tiny little 2* Bahamut. When you've explored 7.2, you get Gwenmaster etc. Nothing game-breaking, just a little nod to you having defeated them fully. I think that would be a really cool little reward.

Man-Thing has different abilities based on the 50% mark. Other champions, like Sasquatch, Hulk, etc gain abilities based on missing health. So that is kind of 'phase' abilities.

In general, I don't think 'Phase' based abilities are successful, because they are either entirely Defense focused (since the goal on offense is not to get hit) and thus not really 'fun', or they affect the relative value of items.

Health potions become more/less useful. Nick Fury makes health potions essentially worthless. A 20% revive is worth more to a Herc user, compared to with other champions. You could argue that maybe more players will buy and use health/revive potions to get their Phase champion to 45% health for that phase's ability, but I would think that would be unlikely (since the more powerful abilities would logically be at low health).

Bishop kind of has this idea with different abilities based on the power level he finishes the previous fight at. But practically speaking, it is hard to effectively use this (it is really only useful every other fight, and it is hard to play to get the KO when you're at the desired power bar level). In general, it is a little too finicky.
