Made it to diamond 3 but can’t progress any further, this is what 8 of the past 10 matches have looked like.
My account is 1.18 million rated and almost all I’ve matched against have been 2-3 million

VT is not an A-for-effort part of BG where everyone is entitled to pass through it and reach GC. Only the strongest players in BG should be reaching GC. Everyone else should be getting as much as possible from going as high as they can in VT. There is such a thing as "as high as you can." In fact, the fact you got to Diamond 3 implies you were getting disproportionately easy matches to get there. That's a relic of the fact that Kabam incorrectly allowed players to match by roster strength and caused players to believe that's how it is supposed to be. It isn't. Even in the VT, stronger players should be rising and weaker players should be getting slowed down sooner. With each season, Kabam is reducing roster matching bias and forcing players to match against everyone else, and the higher you go in VT the more you will be exposed to matching against the typical players in that track.
This early in the season the majority of players in Diamond 3 are probably very strong players with very strong rosters, and you're more likely to run into them. This is not a bug, this is deliberate. If you can't beat them, you shouldn't be getting to Diamond 1 or Vibranium or especially GC.
I also wouldn’t say I’ve been breezing through victory track. I’ve been playing at least an hour a day in bgs and have lost my fair share of easier matchups.
Maybe the account rating system of matchmaking is flawed but it’s needed to prevent matches where someone with a 11k attacker is fighting a 40k defender while a 20k attacker is fighting a 27k defender.
Yeah it is a skill based game mode and that is what makes it enjoyable, it’s not enjoyable to play the game mode and go into matchups that realistically there is a very small chance of winning.
Let's back up. In GC, all match ups are ELO based, like in Alliance war. Basically, winners face winners and losers face losers, just with more math. If you win a lot your rating goes up, but then you have to face opponents who have also won a lot and also have higher rating. Your roster strength means nothing in GC. If you win, you face other winners. If you lose, you drop down and face other losers. If the winners have a stronger roster than you, too bad.
If BG was a tournament, eventually everyone would have to directly or indirectly face everyone. There's no such thing as saying it isn't fair for me to face that guy, so go find me another opponent. In a tournament, you face whomever emerges as your next match up. We can't make BG a tournament, because that would force everyone to play the same number of matches and at the same scheduled times. So we use ELO-style match ups and ladders. Again, in the GC that's how it has always worked because that's the only fair way to decide who's the best competitor.
We didn't need a VT at all. We could have just thrown everyone into GC. But then everyone would have to face everyone and lower rated players would tend to win very few matches and thus receive very few rewards. If you are not very competitive and very driven to compete, you'd probably not get anything from BG. So the only players who would participate at all would be those who thought they had a shot at high rank rewards. Which is only a tiny slice of the player population.
BG is a turnstile game mode - it requires lots of players queueing up to play all the time. Low participation doesn't work. So to attract more players to the mode, including more casual players, the VT was created to offer a less strict, more casual participatory mode. In VT, you can earn at least some rewards just by participating, even if your win rate is not high. You can earn rewards even if your roster is not strong, because you are not in direct competition with all other players for rank rewards. You can earn rewards by achieving milestones.
But since the VT is also the onramp to GC, it can't be purely participatory. It can't just allow everyone equal access to GC, because GC is not an equal-access area. It is meant for the strongest players to compete against each other head to head. So while the VT makes accommodations for players with weaker rosters, it cannot allow them to have easier paths to GC than stronger roster players. Every player who gets into GC at the expense of other players who could have otherwise easily beaten them is a failure of the game mode. Because the point to a competition is for the stronger competitors to win and the weaker ones to lose.
You are getting matched against players with much stronger roster, because those are the players you are supposed to be able to beat to progress higher. Like it or not, roster strength is part of your competition's overall strength. You don't get to fight only players with the same roster as you. You don't get to ask for opponents who have only so much higher roster either. If, say, Diamond 3 is dominated by players with three million roster, then that's your competition. That's who you need to beat to get to Diamond 2, where the competition will be even stronger.
You can keep saying you "shouldn't have to" face players with a much stronger roster. But you should, because that's who's there. If you can't beat them, why do you deserve to move higher? Why should you get ahead of them?
To be #1, you have to beat #1. Everyone knows this. What apparently a lot of people have forgotten is that this doesn't only apply to #1. It also applies to #2. And #3. And #33. And #33333.
I know that very few people are going to be convinced. Years of making the same argument for alliance war has shown that. At some point it is what it is. It is the rational way it should work. It is the way Alliance war was *compelled* to work after trying for years to make it work the other way. It is the way most other similarly structured competitions work. It is ultimately what the majority wants. And it is what the devs have decided to do. Any one of those things you could argue against. All of them combined, you're never going to win against. I'll keep explaining it, as I have been for Alliance war, but this fight is over. I'm not making the case for it to work this way, I'm just stating how it works and why it works this way, but I have no need to advocate for it any more, because it is a done deal.
That dosent mean the system in place is the right one to use
Rewards up to Platinum 3 are descent for a 1.2mil account.
Of course they aren't the full VT plus GC ranked that many similar accounts were getting the 2-3 previous seasons, but they are still good.
Play for the objectives and solo/ally bgs milestones till stronger competitors move up and your matches become easier.
BGs is a competition that should reward the strongest competitors, not the most skilled players, not the most experienced, not the biggest accounts, but the combination of all these.
That is happening now.
To enter GC you need to have a lot of all these 😉
I'm TB and currently on Diamond 1. And I would be at Vibranium if I had spent more.
