How far can a one Battlegroup Alliance go in AW?

Hey folks,
I'm in a pretty decent alliance (mostly Paragon players), however a few of our players have left (due to 7*s, boredom etc..). This had made it very hard to recruit as we've experienced very unreliable players and players whose rosters only have Hercules and 2-3 other options (so nothing of defensive value or a wide range of offensive choices for AW).
We run two Battlegroups but currently we're held together by duct tape and cheap glue.
We're in Gold 3/2 and I'm wondering how far can an alliance go if they run just one Battlegroup? Can they make it to Gold 1 for example? I'm not too clued up on the AW point system so any advice would be great.

First, you need an active recruiter who can identify where your needs are, and has the time to physically search for players who can fulfill those needs. The forum, global, Reddit, etc can be used in various capacities to properly vet recruits.
Second, while doing so, the recruiter should be asking the right questions and stating their needs and objectives to the potential recruit. Are they a daily active player? Which AQ maps can they help clear? Etc etc etc, and while talking to them, you can get a sense of their personality, their drive, and their experience. If you're a lazy recruiter, you'll be doing a great disservice to your alliance, and you'll have to work twice as hard to fill those positions and keep people.
Finally, don't be afraid to ask for help. You can have another officer chip in, or you can ask fellow players to see if they know of anyone who'd be interested in joining.
Those are just a few main points off the top of my head. Good luck in your search!
At too low of Multiplier, a 2 BG Ally may be difficult to crack Gold-2 or Gold-3 even with a 12-0 season.
But something else changed recently like several War Seasons ago, in either total number of alliances, or how many running 3 BG vs 1 or 2, so that what for us was a pretty consistent placement running just 2 BG suddenly dropped basically an entire Sub-Medal worth of Ranking. Happened basically instantly from 1 season to that next season, and then has stayed at that lower Rank even with an 11-1 one of those next seasons.
Like all of a sudden a large amount of Ally's maybe suddenly switched from 2 BG to 3 BG, and noticeably pushed down any 1 or 2 BG Ally's.
And beyond that, frankly ever since what was maybe 1-2 years (?) ago when then dropped the WIN BONUS from 50,000 down to 30,000, that Tier/Multiplier has been much more important for overall standing than your actual Win/Loss Record.
I doubt 1 BG alliance can get to G2, maybe the bottom of G2.
My alliance is still 50/50 on doing 1 BG. If we found relaiable players with decent rosters we'd be good for 2BG in Gold 3/2. It's just a pity 7*s drove some of our players away and we've had rotten luck with some unreliable players who join them bail mid-war.
But thanks again, we'll solider on I guess.
G1 would require almost seven million points which implies a multiplier of 9.0 which is impossible at a 50% win rate. But if they were to somehow win all their wars then that would require a multiplier of 7.3 which is possible for a tier 1 alliance.
So a tier 2 alliance running one group can get to G2, and a tier 1 alliance running one group can get to G1, at least in theory. A tier 3 alliance winning half their wars would be right on the borderline between G3 and G2.
