As for transparency, we don't have the right to internal data. Not now, not ever.
Like... at some point ease up on your Kabam worship and just absolute willingness to regurgitate their ****.
Data mining is in no way as bad as someone using an arena bot - it's not even in the same ballpark.
You actually just implied someone cheating and using bots to get infinite units and champions - the actual economy of the game, is ALMOST as bad as data mining and leaking information.
So you actually view data mining as worse.
Someone using software that modifies the game files is an important priority, no question. Not as serious as a data breach.
That data is not only the legal property of Kabam, it also contains spades of personal information pertaining to its Users. It contains the very information that creates the game. In terms of these leaks, it compromises their ability to release, or not release should they choose, the content that they spend months working on.
You're comparing that to someone manipulating the outcome of a competition. The data mining jeopardizes the entire game itself.
The fact that people are sticking up for a digital thief is beyond my comprehension.
I get it, Kabam hates the miners and Kabam Jax once referenced in a live stream that they were in review with their "legal department" so you're all excited to burn someone at the stake, but data mining is drawing information from files and quite literally, reading/organizing it all. Most of the time, these files are sent to us in a patch or are otherwise publicly available... so theft? No. Is it unethical? Argumentative. Against the rules and ToS? Absolutely. Does it ruin anticipation and surprise? Yeah, in many cases it can. Illegal and worse than someone actively cheating and threatening the economy of the game and thus the game itself? No.
People are outraged and "defending" the leaker because to them, the bigger outrage is directed at the cheaters and arena bots. Bans should be rolling out after every single arena, not once every few weeks/months. These bots are easy to track. These leaks clearly show how easy it is for ANYONE to actually track these bots. But nah, forget them... they're just cheaters, it's the leaker we should all want to admonish.
It's very telling that you of all people on here seem to view data mining more of a threat to the game than an arena cheater/bot. Were you not on the side of saying how people with unlimited access to energy would just completely destroy the foundation of the game? But access to unlimited champions and battle chips (through those: units, energy, gold, etc... ) THAT's not nearly as bad as access to information?
Accessing information to leak arena scores and exposing bots.
Accessing information to leak champion kits, crystal pools and content not yet made live.
ACTUALLY modify game files to cheat and interfere with the integrity of the game, competition, ruin the experience of other players as well as gain access to unlimited resources making the economy mean absolutely nothing.
Yeah... you're right, the first two are FAR worse. 100% makes sense.
Look, I clearly won't convince you, because your more concerned with whether or not Kabam can sleep at night and the data miners give them nightmares. You clearly wont convince me, because I'm an actual human being and not a corporation - so let's just agree to disagree on this one.
Amusingly, I'm actually against data mining in most cases. I just think you're absolutely ridiculous to suggest that it should be considered by all to be a higher risk than active cheaters. But clearly, Kabam has set one of these things as their priority and thus here you are, their Renfield, confused at the fact that people who actually play the game care about the cheaters more than Kabam's control of information.
Ignore
stop feeding the bird, folks
But I'm not an expert in the field. All I know is my accounts have always been safe...
Any data mining puts people at risk. It always has. Whether that information is shared or not. It's not benign. It's all the same from that perspective. One view is from the Players (doesn't take Rewards from me and lets me know things ahead of time) and the other is from a business perspective. It's the latter I'm coming from, and any data breach is much worse.
Do you even understand that data mining from files and obtaining information does not put ALL information at risk? Do you understand that not all data is housed in the same place, nor even secured by the same systems or security processes?
Data mining unreleased content that's included in a patch update but not necessarily live doesn't put account information of all users in the game at risk. Stop pretending it does.
Stop acting like someone who has access to a featured crystal pool, or an arena leaderboard and shares that information before Kabam wants to is also siphoning fractions of a penny every time Kabam makes a sale. Or has access to all our passwords and bank account information.
Treat the issue for what it is. It's a violation of their ToS and actively acts against their business interests in relation to their control of information and security of said information. That does not equate to "Dur... all our data information is at risk due to these leaks". Stop exaggerating this. These leaks have been going on for a LONG time. I trust Kabam has made efforts to secure the more sensitive information, don't you?
We aren't discussing the most alarmist form of a data breach - so stop treating it like it is one and stop expecting everyone else to also. You don't get to say their identical, because they're not. One would actually be a crime. Leaking is not always the result of hacking. Data Mining does not often even utilize hacking. Data mining and data breaches are mutually exclusive things and shouldn't be used interchangeably.
So no, it's not all the same from that perspective...
