In this screenshot, Kabam Miike clearly states that they’re trying to move away from hoarding and implies that hoarding in itself is frowned upon.
However , in the Comissary Store one of the 2 only good offers requires you to have hoarded 165k shards.
As it turns out , I was sitting on a stash of shards under the assumption that I could possibly trade them in. But whenever I saw that post by Miike, I ended up opening them thinking that the event wouldve been on a smaller scale.
If I’d known, we could get a 7 star, I would’ve saved those shards. Just seems like misinformation at this point.
Kabam is not going to stop players from hoarding resources lol. They literally encourage hoarding in so many ways. The Captain Commisary is a prime example. Many players wouldn't be able to buy anything from it if they didn't hoard resources.
Another example is Kabam's reluctance to update outdated rewards in other events. Some of us (myself included) are sitting on over 1 million Solo Crystal shards because they only benefit 4 and 5 star champions (barely benefit 5*'s), and have other outdated resources, so there's no reason to open them.
They keep introducing a bunch of new champs, but make gold so scarce, or require too much grindy investment to get it, that I no longer rank a bunch of champs as often as I used to, just so I can hoard gold for when I really need it.
Paragon players still get a "Cavalier" objective crystal.
Loyalty is STILL capped at 1000 per day, but the loyalty store resources remain disgustingly overpriced.
The Sigil Store/Black Market has so many outdated resources, purchase limits, and long turn around times, that it makes spending undesireable and hoarding sigil tokens easy.
Here's the thing though: in the past when we've voiced the need for updates especially with game progression, Kabam was in disagreement of that. So here we are....hoarding.

You’re right, almost EVERY store is completely outdated, but they don’t really seem to care. Even the Sigil Store, of all things, is egregiously stuck in yesterday, and that’s one that people literally PAY for, so you think they’d put some effort there to incentive new Sigils.

Exactly! They fail to realize their role in our hoarding. These stores should be updated yearly. If we had good reason to spend sigil tokens, spend more units, spend more gold, open crystal shards..etc..WE WOULD!
I am wondering if OP.opened everything else? PHC, 3*, 4*, 5*, t3cc crystals since he took the post verbatim. Hoarding has a negative connotation, ever watch Hoarders? They hoard useless junk not useful things like 6* shards.
Nobody took the post verbatim, I only opened what I had because I was close to my next 7 star after paragon gauntlet.

I couldn’t agree with this anymore, so many of the shops and events and items like the solo shards are outdated. It just seems like the game is just trying to pump out as many offers as it can without focusing on what’s actually obsolete. Yes, the game needs money to survive, but aspects of the game like outdated rewards, shops, and items need to be assessed too.
In a couple hours we’ll have part 2 of the commissary and lets see if the new items added to the store will have required rigorous amounts of hoarding or flat out unit dump items.
So just one final day left of this Pay/Hoard to win event. With the weekend coming to an end, let’s see how Kabam reacts.
On a separate note, the caps comissary event was really poorly thought out, as you cant even capitalize on the BGs objectives from day 1 if you had done your runs the day before. They really need to add more ways of earning points in that event unless they only care for our wallets
Why would saving 6* crystal shards be considered hoarding?
10k , 20k or even 50 k is decent. But 165k 6* shards is hoarding
It's not.
But I don't really see how this event has anything to do with hoarding.
I'd say this event, of all events incentives hoarding. With cyber weekend and 4th of July, casual spenders can grab a ton of items from just buying the unit deals, however in terms of units, these deals give you almost no units. My 3 platpool crystals from the $40 USD deal gave me 60 units. Due to this, the only way to pick up most everything is to have hoarded units, or spend extra money on units. Personally, I'd much rather save my units for cyber weekend, than use them on this event.
Even the 7* CW is out of reach of most people. Based on current calculations from the community, ftp can get around 3100 points and I think increase it to 3800 with the casual drop of 20k units. That makes the final milestone out of reach of both ftp and casual spenders alike (unless they really want to buy every single deal).
That's where I disagree. I don't feel having gold, units or crystal shards on hand is hoarding. I just don't see it that way. Again, just my opinion. I also don't find any value in any of the offers. I think the bundles for units and gold are way too high. 1111 units for 16.5k 6* shards is absolutely ridiculous. 1.1 Mil gold for a rank 1-2 is laughable.
Again, to me, having units, gold and shards isn't hoarding.
It doesn't matter what you personally consider hoarding. It doesn't change the fact that holding onto to 165k shards is in fact hoarding.

Then that's not the behavior Kabam is referring to. What word would you like to suggest to replace it, because that's not the way the term "hoarding" is used in this context.
We can quibble over the definition of "hoarding" but the silly definitions of "hoarding is when anyone keeps anything" (which is ludicrous) or "hoarding is when anyone keeps more stuff than I do" which is nonsense, are not what Kabam or any other game designer anywhere on Earth means. When Kabam says they do not want to encourage hoarding, what they mean is they do not want players to constantly save materials in the hope that one day some future option for spending them that does not exist now and might never exist in the future will come along.
Kabam doesn't care if players save resources to spend later. That's called "having a brain." Nobody is expected to spend resources as soon as they get them or as soon as possible. Resource management is an important part of this game, and players are explicitly and deliberately rewarded for managing resources effectively.
The problem comes when players get paralyzed by indecision, comparing what they can spend on today not between offers that exist or likely will exist in the future, but on unknowable futures that might not happen at all. That just locks up resources indefinitely. They explicitly stated this was their rationale for no longer announcing featured crystal contents in advance. Kabam is perfectly fine with players saving shards for featureds, but they did not want players to get into the infinite loop of saving for the next one, and the next one and the next one, never buying any in because they kept chasing future iterations of the crystal.
I have over five thousand uncollected gold crystals. I'm not hoarding them, in the sense of deliberately not opening or spending them in the hopes that I might be able to use them for something better later. Rather, I do not open them because I have a ton of gold, and so long as I have more gold than I can spend, opening those crystals does me literally no good. I can open them and get gold, but I cannot trade gold back into those crystals. So it would be irrational for me to perform a one-way operation for zero benefit. That's not hoarding, that's simple logic.
Hoarding would be where I stop ranking up champions because I want to save the gold just in case next year there might be a gold trade in. I am now deliberately hampering my own game progress in the hope that some better option becomes available. Which itself would be fine, if we were all adults who could take that calculated risk and live with it. But people do not do that. They complain about how the game doesn't have enough gold, and yet are perfectly willing to hold on to the gold they have in the hope they might get something better for it. Causing the developers to have to respond to the complaint that essentially there should be enough gold for players to do whatever they want with gold, including having enough to dump it into obvious gold sinks for those with excess gold. Which is mind-numbingly ridiculous.
At the end of the day, the game rewards efficient play. Efficient play is sometimes spending resources, and sometimes saving resources, and knowing when to do which. If that is interpreted as sending a mixed message, so be it. It isn't a mixed message, it is just a slightly more sophisticated message than some players are willing to tune into.
For the record, I did the trade, and I still have about 150k shards left. For a very long time now I have been buying only 6* featureds to target the newer champs, and I switch from buying them at 15k a piece to only buying the Sigil discounted ones when the value of the crystal drops below a critical level - because I have most or all of the champs already. Then I start saving for the next one, which is what I have been doing for a while because I already had almost all the champs in this particular crystal by coincidence. If someone wants to call that hoarding, go ahead, but I don't call that strategy hoarding, and neither would Kabam, and neither I think would most other players. If someone thinks this is hoarding and Kabam is rewarding hoarding while claiming to not encourage it, most of Kabam;'s actions, and for that matter most of how the rest of the world operates, will probably continue to baffle them. Because the rest of the world is not required to operate according to their definitions of how it should work.

Far from the truth. I stand by what I said. Holding onto 165k shards is not what Kabam means by hoarding. Also from here on out, from your own definition, you can no longer refer to "saving for CW deals". You can only say that you're hoarding units for CW deals.
Most of the people in this thread that are taking what Miike said to the extreme, have always referred to saving units for CW as "saving them" and not "hoarding them".
saving, collecting, hoarding. there's a bunch of ways to say it and to most people it means saving a resource for best-case situations.
respectfully, it's odd that the devs phrase it like this, because the game incentivizes hoarding more than ever. july and cyber monday unit offers used to be 15k and now it's hitting the high 30's and 40's. how are we moving away from hoarding when the demands for units keeps going up?
Why would saving 6* crystal shards be considered hoarding?
Keeping 165k 6* shards on you at all times for this event seems like hoarding to me
Disagree. We've always stashed shards since featured crystals became a thing. Saving crystal shards for new featured crystals lets you try and get that champion you're targeting once the new crystal is out.
For me, hoarding is hanging onto every single Awakening gem for fear of using it on the "wrong champ" or duping that champ the next time you open a crystal. Never using sig stones for the same reason.
We regularly see posts here on the forums showing how many shards we have saved for the next featured and then related posts once that featured is released. Never have I seen anyone from Kabam discourage people from saving champion crystal shards.
Why would saving 6* crystal shards be considered hoarding?
Do you know what hoarding means?
Hoarding is saving with the intention of never using/getting rid of those items. Saving crystal shards with the intention to open a ton a featured crystals is not hoarding.
Not everyone goes for the feats though? Some are focusing on 7 stars and opening basic crystals to get more 7 star shards
Ok? That's their choice to make.
It's the same as the gold or units offers in that store. I could try and never spend units period waiting for the off chance there will be an event like this or I could use them. It's up to the player in how they want to manager their resources. Holding on to things like 5, 6 or 7 star shards is not hoarding. 6* shards are as available as the air we breathe.
Holding on to every single AG you ever get for fear of missing out on a trade in-store is hoarding.
So are people supposed to do with the mass of 4* AG crystals that we get from the Supreme Solo Crystals? I have every 4* awakened. I am maxed out on all the AG’s in my inventory. Hopefully they introduce a new Solo Crystal rarity for Paragon players, but in the meantime I am holding on to them as they aren’t worth selling.
I think that Paragon players should have a permanent AG trade in up to 6* (even if it is just a crystal). 5 4* generic for 1 5* Generic. 5 5* Generic for 1 6* Generic or crystal. 5 Class specific for a generic of that rarity.
Well, newer players like me will never go above 100k shards because we don’t have all the 6* in the normal pool. Also my strategy was reinforced when 7* shards were introduced as you duped a 6*. So I decided to open my 6* basic to get more 7* shards since. My grief with this deal is that had the team showed us the materials required at the start of the month, I would be able to saved up 165k shards. I think after finishing the Paragon Gauntlet a fortnight ago, I had 80k shards. Also just open another 30k shards the day before the deal (which is just unlucky). Now if I want to do the featured crystal trade this week, I will have to cough up 5k units to make up the shortfall instead. I hope you can understand my frustration here.
Also I will also think this deal also benefit big accounts who are more likely be saving shards for featureds regardless but forgot that smaller accounts do exists and are not swimming in shards.
Why would saving 6* crystal shards be considered hoarding?

I've sold countless 2, 3 and 4* AGs from my overflow. Kabam has already said they won't bring back that trade in so there's no point in keeping them for any reason.
I don't agree that Paragons only should get a trade up. I think at our level, there should be less ways of attaining those gems.
There also shouldn't be levels of every crystal either because that's just more for the game to track etc.. unless they can make solo crystals like 4hr/login crystals. There's already too many ways to get 6* gems. We get a generic and class every month now.
This game has been mismanaged for years. If they can’t fix the bugs and inputs, follow through on road maps or simply understand the player base, we can’t expect anything more from them.
Only the Kabam lawyers are trying to justify this events direction, this is typical Kabam.
So why do you fix it for them? I'm sure it's easy to have a bug free game right?
Also road maps? Really? For the one millionth time, road maps aren't promises. Road maps aren't guarantees for things to happen. Please stop trying to make them into some kind of failure that Kabam promised and never delivered.

Because it never occurred to Kabam that anyone would think saving units for expensive things would be hoarding, any more than people saving for a new car would be considered hoarding money. This is something you have to be exposed to a lot of forum posts over a lot of years, or just have an extremely low opinion of people in general, to be able to predict.
Most normal people in most normal situations would not consider this to be hoarding. This is the kind of thing that only happens on internet forums involving games, politics, or the question of whether hotdogs are a sandwich.

Theres no way this guy just compared hoarding shards which are meant to be opened regularly for champions versus units which have no where near as much “immediate value” unless you have a trigger finger for buying consumables. Everyone knows the best times to use these resources are holidays like cyber monday, july 4, and x mas.
Thats the difference it’s literally a KNOWN that we can expect. This 165k shards wasnt and Kabam Miike even hinted we wouldn’t need to hoard.

He stopped commenting on the thread after realizing he was wrong
Far from the truth. I stand by what I said. Holding onto 165k shards is not what Kabam means by hoarding. Also from here on out, from your own definition, you can no longer refer to "saving for CW deals". You can only say that you're hoarding units for CW deals.
Most of the people in this thread that are taking what Miike said to the extreme, have always referred to saving units for CW as "saving them" and not "hoarding them".
Again, before Miike's comment, you've NEVER referred to saving shards as hoarding. You've NEVER referred to saving units as hoarding. You're using it now because you think you're getting one over on Miike and his comment.
I've explained it to you and DNA3000 has explained it to you. When they originally talked about how hoarding is bad, they weren't talking about units and shards. You're just using those as examples because they can be used in the shop.
Bad hoarding in the eyes of Kabam is saving rank up gems to chase a store that will never come around. Someone in this thread already said they have tons of 4* AG crystals. Having 500k 6* shards to target a champ in the new featured crystal isn't what Kabam thinks hoarding is.
But whatever. I've said my piece. Have fun with your new buzzwords. See ya next month when you've moved on and have some other misplaced anger.

And the so called "Rank Up" store is a joke 🤣
As for PHCs 2mill and solo shards 10mill
In a couple hours we’ll have part 2 of the commissary and lets see if the new items added to the store will have required rigorous amounts of hoarding or flat out unit dump items.
On a separate note, the caps comissary event was really poorly thought out, as you cant even capitalize on the BGs objectives from day 1 if you had done your runs the day before. They really need to add more ways of earning points in that event unless they only care for our wallets
Most of the people in this thread that are taking what Miike said to the extreme, have always referred to saving units for CW as "saving them" and not "hoarding them".
respectfully, it's odd that the devs phrase it like this, because the game incentivizes hoarding more than ever. july and cyber monday unit offers used to be 15k and now it's hitting the high 30's and 40's. how are we moving away from hoarding when the demands for units keeps going up?
I think that Paragon players should have a permanent AG trade in up to 6* (even if it is just a crystal). 5 4* generic for 1 5* Generic. 5 5* Generic for 1 6* Generic or crystal. 5 Class specific for a generic of that rarity.
Also road maps? Really? For the one millionth time, road maps aren't promises. Road maps aren't guarantees for things to happen. Please stop trying to make them into some kind of failure that Kabam promised and never delivered.
Most normal people in most normal situations would not consider this to be hoarding. This is the kind of thing that only happens on internet forums involving games, politics, or the question of whether hotdogs are a sandwich.
Thats the difference it’s literally a KNOWN that we can expect. This 165k shards wasnt and Kabam Miike even hinted we wouldn’t need to hoard.
