Fed up baiting specials

Why is it every time Kabam wants to add some difficulty to a champion they automatically go to power gain or increased power gain or some other ****?

It's boring spending 45 minutes of every fight trying to a champ to do a special so you don't get pummeled by an s3.

Get some imagination and think up something new

Power gain is easy to tackle esp in quests where they don’t have MD or Prey on the Weak.

cry more, what do u want the champs to do? hit extremely hard? 45min fights? can u even do LOL?

This is a fighting game; but (credit to Kabam) they've managed to make it one where you need to use some intelligence and strategy rather than just constantly attacking; or you'll get hammered by an unavoidable SP3. If baiting tires you out, you can use different champs to deal with specials differently; either power control champs or evaders, tanks or regeneraters, or damage limitation specialists like Iceman, Magneto or Ant-Man.

Personally, I don't mind power gain nodes nearly as much as overpowered champs like Hyperion and his insane ability to create limitless power from nowhere (remember when that was something only OG Vision could do?).

I'd rather they hit harder, just evade.
No I can't do LoL, what does that have to do with anything?
Ice phoenix was easy, rank 4 5* SL with attack boost cut through her quite easily, thanks for asking

Can’t do lol with a rank 4 sl? Yeeesh

More recently we have seen champs like yandu medusa and modok that offer different challenges without resorting to degen or s3 to deliver damage. Would agree with OP that majority of the difficult defenders have toll booth tactics and if you don’t have a very specific champ can be difficult to manage at the higher levels. Because of the limitations of a touch screen this is a very basic fighter so they can’t really out skill you so easy unless you want to see AI that refuses to engage and is god level at intercepting because I’m sure they have that in their back pocket also.

You either didn’t complete uncollected or are BSing. SL was literally the worst counter to her. Use some logic kid. Frustrated by power gain? Power control champ fixes that...

I can assure I did complete uncollected, completed not explored and I used SL with an attack and health boost

HawkEye is very useful against powergain. I’d rather have power gain over things like Electro’s shock etc.

He’s got me through most of the uncollected event quest. One more path in Sentry then off to finish Void.

It is fairly monotonous to constantly bait special attacks - perhaps that's why sparky is in such high demand. You could say sparky is the best champ for that, a master baiter if you will...

I thought this was a fighting game not a dodge and run away game

I've noticed that in a fight the guy that doesn't avoid getting hit tends to lose more often than they win. In that respect, MCOC does a decent job of representing that fact in the combat.

AI has been slowly changed to make baiting harder, especially when you need it.

When you stand in front of them with your block down to bait their specials they sprint forward so you have to dash back and reset and they quickly dash back too. Then they do that arm twitch thing 3 or 4 times where they put up and drop their block multiples times a second. You might have to go through this slow frustrating process 2 or 3 times in a row.

They're also more likely not to use their specials even after 5 or 6 perfect evades in a row.

They're also more likely to casually jog towards you and not even give you the chance to setup an evade that triggers a special use. They'll just casually jog you into the corner.

The best way to bait is with backdraft intercepting, minus the interception part. Works pretty much every time😎

I think it is a bit more complex than that. I don't think the AI has been changed explicitly to make baiting specials harder. I think the AI has been changed in such a way that there are more "variables" to how the AI functions, and more different AI profiles that alter these numbers in different ways.

For example, I believe that at one time there were just a few AI profiles which had hard coded parameters for how likely a champion would use a particular special. So those really easy mode opponents would have only a 5% chance of using a special even when they reached three bars of power, for example. But really hard mode had a 95% chance to use SP3 which meant most of the time the champion used it instantly upon reaching three bars. Its more complicated than that of course, because we all know that there are things like "baiting windows" where if you linger in front of the champion in just the right way you can cause them to throw a special. But you get the idea.

But they changed the AI to allow for a lot more fiddling with these "knobs" and even allowed them to be changed dynamically based on how the fight is going. An AI opponent might initially be stingy with SP2, then because of something that happens start using it a lot. I think this would explain a couple things, like some behavior changes I've noticed over time and to enable things like Sparky's taunt to work. For example, I notice that the AI is reluctant to use SP3 when Iceman's ice armor is up, but if they break it with a hit they will instantly throw the SP3: the AI is "aware" of things like that.

The net result of all of this is that the computer AI is now more diverse, and more "random" and unpredictable, because there are now more ways for the AI to be different from fight to fight and for the AI to even change preferences within a fight. And because there are so many variables, its harder to tell which kind of AI we are fighting. This unpredictability makes the AI seem to be harder to control in a fight. Which I believe is intentional.

Well.. To be fair, on 12-15 arena streak, the op oponents are annoying as fack. I can kill op heroes with 2* and 3*, but for some reason on those streak, they barely use the fkn special, many times i end up cornered in the fkn wall after baiting specials for days

Cause in LoL ur mainly baiting specials attack the whole time

oh wow so cant do lol with r4 SL?! smh ok

its your fault for letting the a.i get to sp3, and if u wanted it to hit harder ur most likely to lose a lot of champs

the -12 and -20 dmg on mini bar game is basically your evade to reduce incoming damage but for 5*.

Having to completely stop attacking in a fighting game because to hit them anymore will push them into SP3 (Not to mention power gain champs, like Hypy, Mordo, OG Vision, etc) and then spend the next however long dancing back and forth until they deign to use a special so you can properly avoid it, so that you can finally attack again, is just stupid at a fundamental level.

Barring super powers, being punched in the face doesn't make you stronger!

I'd love it if they made it so they had to at least been the last one to make a successful hit before SP3 is unlocked (Like passing the Bane debuff back and forth), otherwise they would only use 2 bars and do a SP2. Because it's the most annoying when an All-or-Nothing style AI can just sit there, get pummeled in the face without ever hitting you, then they trigger SP3, and because of node buffs or raw PI, nuke you for FAR more damage than they took while you were pummeling them in the face to build their power in the first place.

SP3 animations are shown as coup de grace, so at least hit me first so we can at least pretend I was wounded! :P

(And yes, we all know "Just bring power control champ", but the scenario I'm talking about happens all the time when building up the last few arena matches before you get into infinite streak range, so you can't rely on that every round)

I'd take a powergain with more powergain and something else nodes any day over what I call "synergy nodes". You know, the ones like 300%champ boost+ bane+thorns+60%armor+ physical resistance+energy resistance+immunity,
or start with 1 bar of power+30% more damage Unblockable sp1+ 30%more damage unblockable sp2+300% champ boost+enhanced fury+fury+buff duration+immunity. LOL

I feel your pain and your right, being punched in the face doesn't make you stronger. It makes you cry. LOL
I had the same problems myself from the beginning in early 2015 until about the last 6months. Im so impatient I used to go into fights without even reading the nodes and just atk atk atk then get pissed off when I got hit with an unblockable and think "WTF was that BS"!? still do on ocassion ;-)

With age and countless beatdowns I grew a bit wiser and patient in fights I don't use Magik(my goto power control champ) and I found its a lot easier to bait out sp1 than sp2's, and sp2's need to be baited early without going too far into the bar or else its nearly impossible a lot of times.

I'm still trying to figure out how to trigger 2 seperate sp1's with 2 full bars. Is it even possible?? They should add that to the node descriptions on champs that pull that BS on us.

Baiting specials against Void is preposterous. Using power controllers made it easier? Yeah, sure. But still got those extremely powerful debuffs draining my health as I waited for him to decide to throw a special, without hitting my defense and trying to get those 10 hits to purify myself. By the time I get to enervate him with Gwenpool I'm taking unavoidable damage. By the time enervate is ending, I can't place a bleed - lol

Still, there were worst things that they could've gone with besides power gain.
