Main thing I am saying is make a event out of it, it would get the job done for KABAM
No, it wouldn't
A Crystal Opening event would do nothing except make the process take longer for everyone, as they would still be auto-opened afterwards, as they need to be wiped from the server.
We ran a Crystal Opening Event in the past We were told the Crystal Opening Event was a "Massive L"
good point just we gonna have so much sitting in stash most of which is pretty much unusable for higher end players unless we sell all of it
Complaining? Check Players who don't even know what is happening? Check Over estimation of resources? Check Lawyer dudes who think Kabam is breaking into their house? Check DNA 3000? Check
Well, the fact they are force opening the Mega Egg whilst Brian is away is telling. Also, for those talking about useless crystals, featured 6* and 5* crystals are on the list... Don't be surprised if a crystal you saved for resources because of the small stash size suddenly disappears.
Would have been much more transparent if Kabam just placed timers on the crystals they will delete, instead of a huge list with generic names that no human can correlate with their stash easily. I mean, there are literally two entries for the 6* featured hero crystal.
It has nothing to do with being transparent. It has everything to do with people saving each of these types of crystals for years. You can't tell me you're saving featured 6* crystals for resources. You have to buy them to store them and they're always available. The pools do not update as it's already been stated. So why are you buying a crystal to hoard that won't have a different pool ever?
I should point out that even if no player hoarded crystals, we’d still have this problem because players quit all the time. If even a single player quits while holding a GMC or Cav for a special event, the fact they never log in again still forces the devs to keep that crystal active in the databases, which means all of us have to keep storing zeros for that crystal in our accounts. Hoarders and collectors are special cases of the general problem, which is that crystals must be kept in the game so long as a) it is possible to earn it or b) someone still has it. Once it can’t be earned anymore and no one holds it, it can be safely removed from the game. But there will always be at least one account that holds a crystal, if for no other reason than they never came back to open it. Periodic crystal purges prevent those crystals from slowing down the game even when few if any players really care about them.
Crystal hoarders don’t *cause* the problem. They are just the players that happen to be the most impacted by the solution to the problem.
Theoretically, if Kabam knows they won't be issuing "Crystal X" anymore, could they then put a timer on that specific crystal, lets say 60days or such? I read your response about timers earlier and agree that dozens of timers would do more harm than good. But would it change if limited time crystals did expire or auto-open?
They could, but the timers that exist now are primarily for availability. When they expire they just aren’t available to get anymore. Sometimes, they also disappear from the vault which means for all intents and purposes we’ve lost them. But I don’t think the tech exists to auto open crystals on expiration, which would mean players who don’t open them would just lose them (and whatever is inside them).
That might end up being more efficient, but it wouldn’t be as good for the players in general.

It would also indicate to the players that there will now be periodic Realm Events during crystal clean ups, which would encourage players to save crystals for those events, which is the very definition of counter productive.

The vast majority of crystals being opened are champion crystals which will ultimately contain ISO and gold for the most part. Gold has no cap so no one loses that. ISO eventually expires but if someone has huge numbers of champion crystals piling up on them because they don’t need the gold or ISO, odds are they won’t miss the ISO either and can just sell it for gold.
I opened 120 thousand crystals during the Realm Event. I ultimately found a way to use most of the stuff.
I like how people are worried about ISO overflow or management, specially after the Hearts of Fire event where people were just popping 300 unit crystals non stop just to try to pull 7*s....
@DNA3000 Its counter productive to your player base to tell them we are going into your account and deleting crystals you earned and saved. yes we know they can do what they want to the accounts WE built, I acknowledged this in above comments. Is it ethical? No its not. So you can sit there and type your brains out defending or justifying what this is, but in my opinion its wrong to tell your player base we are going into your accounts and popping your saved assets.
Except they aren't deleting crystals, they're opening them. You don't lose anything that you would have had for opening the crystals yourselves

They're opening the crystals so they can delete the crystals
(1) Who is buying “Featured Champ” crystals, in search of those new champs, and then NOT opening them ?
Don't they cost (depending which progression versions) 150/200/300 UNITS each ? Maybe if someone buys 50 of them, gets the featured champ within opening the first 20 of them, so just ignores the other 30 (which they have then wasted their units on by buying so many up front instead of buying just as you go along opening so that you can stop buying once you get the champ).
(2) or buys these crystals, not caring about the champs (again, costing UNITS), just for the benefit of getting Dup.ISO to use at some future time years from then ?

These are probably gained from events like side quests . Remember when it was a whole thing that side quests have 30 Cav crystals and was a big deal?

TIL that MCOC moral hazard is a thing
MCOC moral hazard predates the Crystal Cleanse Realm event. Remember when Kabam thought it would be a good idea to allow players with tons of extra gold to buy stuff with it? Players without those tons of extra gold started saying they needed more gold because they couldn’t spend the gold they had because they needed to save it for the next gold sale event, exacerbating the problem for players who were already short of gold. That’s almost certainly a large reason why we no longer have those gold sales.
It goes even further back. Remember when Kabam thought it would be a good idea to give out weekly compensation packages for issues related to parry controls and such? Players started saying even if that problem was fixed, we should still get those until *every* problem in the game was solved. And *then* players started saying we should just get those permanently even if those problems were solved, because the players just plain deserved those resources because the game was too hard anyway. And that’s why there’s now a rule that says in general, compensation only happens when a problem is solved, not while it is ongoing.
There are no active promo codes that I am aware of. Also, this is a thread about the upcoming crystal clean up event. Try to stay on topic when posting in the forums.
When new promo codes are released there are usually posts about them at the time they are released, and they usually only work for a limited period of time. If you have to go searching for them through more than day old posts, they are probably expired already.
