My 11-Year-Old Account Got Banned Out of Nowhere — A Veteran Player’s Frustration

I’ve been playing Marvel Contest of Champions since December 2014—yeah, nearly 11 freakin' years. I’ve stuck around this long because I’m a die-hard Marvel fan and love the combat mechanics. But man, it hasn’t been easy. There were times I wanted to rage-quit after getting destroyed by insane quests, losing progress because of cheaters in BG mode, or dealing with endless bugs and connection drops mid-fight. Still, I never gave up. I wanted this game to thrive.

Over these 11 years, my life changed a lot. I moved countries, built a family, and my daughter literally grew up watching me play this game. It’s been part of my freakin’ DNA.

Then yesterday, I logged in and boom—my account was banned.
The reason? "Using a modified client." ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I’ve been clean for 11 years. I don’t even sideload apps—my APK’s straight from Google Play. Whatever new "detection system" you’re testing clearly messed up. Check the logs again. Check my play history. Check literally anything.

If you’re gonna mass-ban longtime players over false flags, who’s left to keep this game alive? We’re the ones funding it, grinding it, breathing life into it. Fix this. Don’t make loyal players like me feel like our years of support mean nothing.

Send a ticket to Kabam support if you really didn't do anything wrong. They'll be able to help you out. No use in complaining on the Forums, like so many others are doing

You do realize the game just celebrated its 10th anniversary right? How is your account 11 years old?

dude this is literally the 11th year, 2014-2025
The 11th anniversary is in December though so until then, its still at 10 years.

Let's see 10k players out of what 600k I think the game will be alright
Yep burn the whole village because there are some criminals in there. Let's kill 200ppl in one village cause there are 5 thieves and 3 murderers hiding amongst them. Lets finnish off 192 innocent people to get rid of the 8 criminals amongst their midst. In general it'll be better for the community of all neighbor villages/cities
Terrible analogy and not remotely close to what is occurring. But go off.
It's exactly what is occuring. We got thousands of ppl getting banned from which we got dozens of cheaters dozens of ppl who "committed a crime" to play the game that isn't available in their country, cause they had a bad luck and born in wrong part of the world, and then there are hundreds of ppl who did NOTHING wrong and just got cought in a crossfire cause of broken "anti cheat" software
Sure we got some cheaters. To hell with all of the affected innocents!

Sorry but your just plain wrong. Those thousands of accounts are legitimate bans because they did not follow the rules set forth by Kabam. ALL OF THE RULES. Including how and where to download the game from officially. There may be a few hundred AT MOST that got caught in the crossfire, but judging by kabams records on bans, I'm gonna say they were most likely correct in a warning.

I am curious, does the ban start from the moment you find out? Or is it from the day it was executed?

Those “innocents” as you have described them aren’t Kabams problem.

Download the game through legitimate means and try again and if you’re from a country where that is not possible, then play a different game
Bro, I'm from India! I would always download the game from Google Playstore! My mobile is Samsung M51! When I hd started playing this game in 2014, I was using a Moto G4+! Even then I would download from the Google Playstore!

Now, you have any other bright analytical conclusions to say why I got banned after all these years, Sherlock?! Let me know if you want any other details from me, enlighten me with your investigative skills!

Yep screw all the by standards. We don't give a damn if you are innocent, you lived nextdoor to a criminal, so you are guilty as well!. Btw i did download the game from LEGITIMATE means. I did so for all of my previous and current devices (10yrs playing). Only legitimate source and the game isn't banned in my country . I still got banned whitout any reason whitout any explanation

These threads all follow the same dumb pattern. Someone posts an elaborate story about how they’re a good dude and have no idea why they’re banned. The usual suspects (also banned) jump in with a bunch of middle school logic and dubious analogies.

But I’ll ask the question — OP, what did you do to modify your client? If that’s the message you actually received, my understanding is that it’s a more serious infraction than simply downloading from an unauthorized source. Sounds like you knowingly modified the client, possibly in addition to downloading it from Kazaa or wherever.

Sounds what’s the real story bro?

To be clear, Kabam is not banning 10,000 people randomly hoping to catch a hundred cheaters in there. Kabam is banning players using unauthorized game clients because unauthorized game clients are extremely difficult to police, and thus they are prohibited. If they allow players to play with unauthorized game clients, they will essentially be unable to catch almost any cheater with the foresight to use those clients and not do anything ridiculously obvious.

These unauthorized clients and unauthorized distribution channels were *always* prohibited. They didn't just make up that rule. They just didn't have the ability to consistently catch and ban them until now. But they are not banning lots of innocent people hoping to catch cheaters. If you're running unauthorized clients, you aren't innocent. You're doing something explicitly prohibited. You're breaking the rules.

If you want to argue against the rule, feel free. But the recent ban wave is not targeting cheaters and generating lots of collateral damage. The ban wave explicitly targeted unauthorized clients. It is targeting them deliberately, not accidentally. If someone was banned who wasn't running such clients, that's a separate issue. But the vast majority of them were, if not all of them. They are not innocent bystanders.

WRONG! I was banned, and i have, and always had my game from google play. Is that unauthorized source? They were doing it blind, and on friday afternoon just before the end of work. My ban was lifted after 3 days. Lost tons of resources from my overflow

I never seen a game developer fail so bad and the stash system makes it worse when players lose resources bcos they were unjustly banned for days

I hope the compensation makes up for the terrible mistake

    Let’s break it down.

You think because someone has more some kind of something it means something?

Not the actual content of the post?

    This is amazing to me.

In general it'll be better for the community of all neighbor villages/cities. Screw those 192 people. They should have known better!

I was addressing the comments regarding targeting players indiscriminately just hoping to catch cheaters, and I did explicitly state that if someone was banned who wasn’t actually running those unauthorized clients, in other words, targeted incorrectly, that would be a separate issue. Of course such errors should not happen to completely innocent players.

Then why, Why, WHY do this on FRIDAY?! They left us hanging. Not knowing what's going on, no access to support!
