I just don't understand why they decided to change the way they introduce counters. They've never before done what they did today, so I'm curious as to what changed for them.
It is possible we're reading more into this than is there. There has to be a first time for everything, and this might be a case of Kabam wanting to experiment with these kinds of featured crystals as a way to introduce older champions into the 5* crystals, and packaging it up as a Corvus counter was just a happenstance this time.
I hope this is the case and I did mention that this might be the case in the original post, I just don't think that's the message that came across as they seemed to be trying to counter a "favorite" champ. I think we would all like to see older champs added to the 5* crystal (just not Joe Fixit).

I'm not saying their messaging was in error. They might have very deliberately tried to send the message that this crystal is a "counter." My point was that we don't know if the crystal was created first and the messaging second, or if the messaging goal was created first and the crystal to match. In both cases we end up where we are now, but what long term plans we can extrapolate from that are different depending on which is true, and it doesn't seem possible at the moment to know which one is true.
Any indication whether or not Electro gets added to the basic pool in time?
There doesn't seem to be any implication of that in the announcement. Doesn't mean it won't happen, but they don't seem to be saying it will happen either.
A Blade, GR, Corvus team still has him covered and can handle several paths. Electro isn’t a specific Corvus counter... he does same thing to anyone who doesn’t have ability accuracy reduction - Corvus you would just see it more in bigger chunks.
I just think it’s funny is just when they probably thought they were turning a corner with Blade (still great champ but mix him more with others and don’t even run synergies always with him anymore since I need other utility)... Corvus comes along and is the new hot toy for a lot...
Corvus will have his mini reign until the next AW rock star comes out who counters whatever the next string of defensive abilities kabam wants to introduce
I think this is the beginning of a marketing strategy, now we expect others old Champs like BW, SW, Thor, DS, WM, etc. Kabam always release champs in order to continue growing the business... I’ll be glad to see a 5* BW soon, since a 5* Electro is now released. We cannot have day without night, or we cannot have positive without negative, thinking this way, we cannot have Electro without BW.

I hope that's the case but am unsure. Remember they offered a 5* vision awhile back (for the amazing price of $500) but he never got added to the pool.

Vision was a special offer, and $500 bought you the champ outright... With Electro it is like any other crystal. There is less than a 1% chance you will pull him and no guarantee that you will actually get him even if you buy 100+ crystals.
I haven't seen a Corvus user taking on a science champ anyway in war ... there are other champs more suited for it ... So I don't know how electro is going to counter CG??
Yeah, I'm not necessarily saying that he will actually work as a counter, it was just odd that they introduce 5* Electro in a brand new method and advertise him as the counter to Corvus. It felt like they just wanted to introduce a counter to one of the champs that is currently dominating in AW.
It has always seemed that the game team has failed to look at the big picture when designing champions, and they have to consistently make questionable decisions after the fact to try and temper some of their releases (think Corvus, Proxima, Sabretooth not being villians). This seems no different.
Whether this is true or just how it appears, I don't know, but if it is intentional, it seems to be handled in an odd way.
I guess my question is this: With a drop rate of less than 1 percent for a 5*, how would anyone view this as a shift in anything in the game itself?
I could see it if it was the old days of around 20 percent in the old Featured Crystals, but honestly, Electro can't be a counter to anything like Corvus Glaive until his release pattern matches that of Glaive, or something similar.
I mean, Glaive is in the Basic pool. He's out here in the wild. A 0.90 percent drop rate isn't gonna counter that anytime soon

That is a fair point. I really wasn't trying to suggest in my post that Kabam is attempting to shift the meta with 5* Electro. The main focus of my post is why all of the sudden Kabam decided to release a 5* champ in a brand new way. We've never before seen them do this, and the in game message feels like they are just trying to counter an OP champ that they created. This is what I refer to as "questionable methods." It seems odd that they would start adding older champs to the 5* crystal without an announcement which is why I am inclined to think that the reasoning behind introducing Electro to the 5* crystal was something else.
i have no problem with 5* electro....
i wish other champs would also be done as 5*....
my problem is not with what they have done but this.
A while back Kabam commented in regards to a champ (maybe it was mephisto) and said "We never release a champ specifically to be a good defender."
(can anyone find this post?)
then they push the boundary when they release IMIW, even more with Korg. but thats ok cus they have uses elsewhere and we dont know the intent of kabam when they were released.
but then they release Emma and say
"Emma Frost is the best defender we have ever released"
and now to top it off the release Electro as a 5* and say
"he will be the perfect counter to popular war attackers like Corvus"
so they have recently release champs and specifically marketed them as war defenders.
no matter which way you spin it it seems like a total 180.

No, you're fine. It's a forum. You asked an honest question, something worth talking about
Corvius is a great champ but Void, Killmonger, Blade, and SESM, just to name a few are more popular AW attackers. I am wondering why they are trying to bring a Corvius counter when he is not the most popular attacker in war.
