I don't know the exact mathematical numbers, but I can almost guarantee you that the chance of pulling a decent 6* champion from the nexus crystal to go with the two T5CC you'd have is better than pulling a Rank 3 "worthy" 6* mystic from Cavalier Crystals.

To be entirely honest, this title just isn't made for players who haven't 100% explored Act 6 yet.
So, I agree that I also don't like the Rank 3 requirement - because it will cause people to make terrible decisions like spending all of these units on Crystals instead of using them to complete content.
At the end of the day, it's your decision & your resources. You can play however you want - but going forward, I would advise you to spend your units completing content, and obtain the title when you're ready for it.

The numbers would be a 0.16% chance to get a mystic 6*, and about a 0.03% chance to get a good one if 6 of the total mystic champs are worthy of r3. Terrible odds

Its only dependent on luck if you are not the target audience, you are not the target audience, the closer you get to the target audience the less luck involved.

but 12000 units on frikin cavs has a higher chance?
You could've saved those 12,000 units for the Gifting Event or whatever Kabam is doing this December and got some Greater Gifting Crystals or their equivalent and probably gotten a **** ton of 6* shards.
I’m surprised nobody has brought up the Abyss exploration 6* Class Nexus. OP could’ve used those units on exploration, picked mystic, and had a choice of any of 10 6* mystic champs, plus two more t5cc and a generic 6* awakening gem.
I believe there are currently 20 6* mystic champs in the basic pool. Doom, Mojo, Longshot, SorcSup, BWCV, SymSup, and MS are all good candidates for r3, and I could make arguments for one or two others. Don’t have to worry about them only being good awakened because you got that generic AG from exploration. But let’s say 7/20 are worth an r3. If you only got one pull, that would be a 35% chance of getting what you want. But you get *ten unique pulls.* The odds of you *not* getting a worthy mystic are incredibly slim.
But let’s say that through some horrible twist of fate you didn’t get a mystic you wanted. You’d still have two whole t5cc crystals to pop open!
What I’m trying to say here is that there are options available to you that you chose to ignore because you wanted to get Thronebreaker quick and easy rather than actually play the game, and honestly it’s left me more in favor of the r3 gate than I was previously.
Man he doesnt have to explore Abyss/Act 6. He literally couldve just waited for Cyber Weekend and spent on the unit offers. Theres bound to be t5cc selector fragment offers in them
