MCOC is a free to play mobile game but don't mistake that for getting everything in game for free
Kabam has to sell something to players to sustain the game financially
But at what price?
There is a concept called "Price Discovery" whereby the seller set a price and see if buyers are willing to buy said items at that set price (39k for 7* human torch)
If buyers don't buy units or whatever den Kabam have to think about lowering the prices the next time round
It's willing buyer willing seller, players vote with their wallets
It's mainly the whales sustaining the prices by buying everything, this gives Kabam the confidence to set high prices knowing the whales will bite the line, hook and sinker
I've never had more big spenders tell me that they are either slowing or turning off their purchases all together.
They have pissed off a ton of people.
One whale/saga/ event after another has become too much. It shows that Kabam tactics have become all about exploiting players, especially those who spend big.
When it comes to crafting spending events, they have the quickest schedule. But when it comes to making new relics, updating the outdated and overpriced Loyalty store, fixing the in game bugs, dropped inputs, weird controls, etc...etc..etc....Kabam drags their feet and takes forever to do something about them.

My guess is sales require 1/1,000 of the coding that all the other aforementioned items take...
They way they sold count nefaria and bastion are fine, you'll Even get them as ftp in a few months. But locking champ, that too meta champs like red guardian and human torch for years (unknown amount of time), it is just using the fomo to make whales spend on it.
arena helps me get a lot of the deals throughout the year so i'm in a small pool, but i've lowered spending the last year. i usually clear out the spring cleaning, july, and cyber stores but i barely spent this spring cleaning and cut back 20% for july and will probably do the same for cyber. the regular deals i don't touch anymore either, they're just there so i just get the sigil and the monthly unit card.
there's nothing wrong with monetizing stuff and the spenders keep the game ad free, but the more sales they have, the more it waters down the value of what's being sold, so it's ok to skip offers these days.
Running office + all staff salary + server cost + many cost - just to make it back to keep the business profitable it's not an ez job
2024 sales number - do u think any company wants what they had last year or more the next year as more complete ,more characters , hopefully more players , more server space - to keep the game running for 24hrs is crazy cost .
Then just all the data that gets collected is insane Only way u can know this - if u work in a startup or a midrange company
I don’t really care about monetisations unless it affects me personally . So as far as I am personally considered Kabam can go wild . Have every champions for sale , auction off battle grounds ranks whatever . Just stop putting this **** in the game unless you chose to switch it on personally . I don’t want any dumb cash offers , piggy banks , social and so on unless I chose to turn them on
Well I am officially done spending a single cent, call me crazy but I like to spend on things that I enjoy.
I know I responded to part of what you said early but… I wanted to highlight this part of what you said man… in my circles very very few people are enjoying this current direction. So many people that used to career get excited for these things feeling cynical, burnt out, and considering retirement.

I know the feeling, I am in a discord server with some old old time ingame and personal friends I made due to the game. Days like J4 and CM we used to share screen and show the results on a group call, make fun of each other for pulling duds and so on. Last years Banquet and this years J4 we didn't even do it.

As a major comic buff who has a separate entertainment budget, this year I felt the excitment falling off, big time. Along with the anticipation, when we used to have 3-4 major events/year, you were waiting for them, to get some good stuff. Now with around 8-9, I m tired and stopped carying that much. Especially after the J4 deals, I susually spend 400-500 $ on it, this time I barely did half, because the rest of the money weren t getting me anything significant. I absolutely won t spend 800 bucks just for HT, and if you also are disapointed from titan pulls, all this adds up and you cut spending. I bought a great deal of the complete Thunderbolts comic series with the money I saved though, so I m happy.
The game has been monetized all along, in one way or another. The fact that people are offended or surprised by this seems a bit odd to me. There will always be things you can't have without paying. As a consumer, my job is to decide a) if I can afford it, and b) if it appeals to me. If I don’t buy something, I'm not entitled to it for free.
More to the point, it's a business. There's no such thing as too much. We can still play for free if we choose.
There absolutely is such thing as too much. The aggressive push for 600 dollars every 2-3 months is too much when you compare it to doing that only 2 times a year.
I just want them to stop paywalling champions... I don't care if they do a sale on rank 4 materials, awakening gems, and titan nexuses every month, giving whales hundreds of each. Just stop paywalling champions. That's the only aspect of monetization that has gone too far in my opinion. I'm fine with early access sales (6-9 months) but 1-2+ years / no plan at all is absolutely unacceptable and horrible.

I remember a time where you couldn’t have spent $600 on an event… now that’s almost the minimum expectation

Literally every single valid complaint against Kabam seems a bit odd to you so it shouldn't be anything new, I don't get why you're so surprised either. Guess disagree farming is your whole purpose here, at least you're doing fine in that regard.

GW as per usual not getting the point. This isn't about spending in general it's about the fact that the more sales we have, the more expensive they get.

GW has gotta be the ceo in disguise. With comments like that.

No one is offended or surprised by the monetization of the game. As many have already stated, THEY ARE SPENDERS. The problem is the hyper-monetization, and it's taking a toll on a lot of players. Everytime we turn around, there's a new $$500-$1,000+ spending event for a 7* champ. This has increased significantly over the past couple of years, and it wasn't because of players demands, it's because Kabam created Battlegrounds. By doing so this created a strategy to continuosly push new champs/defenders/counters cycle and the big spending events to get them.

Too much for who? For people who think they must buy everything, perhaps. For a company who is trying to keep the lights on, not at all. No one is forcing anyone to buy these. If it's too much for us personally, we're free to pass. The fact that people are still offended with EVERY Offer this game releases almost 11 years later is crazy to me. They're a business. They're going to try and make money.

The game has been around for 10 and a half years, give or take. You think the market hasn't changed over that amount of time? All money does at its base function in this game is accelerate time. Unless something is exclusively only available for purchase, which very few things are in this game, then spending saves time. The OP talked about the frequency of sales and the effect on casual spenders and FTP Players. There is no tit for tat in this game. There's no competition between spending and non-spending Players. It's just not a thing. No one would spend if they gave every perk to people for free. Equally, a casual spender spends at their leisure, and isn't always the targeted audience for all sales, especially when they're higher in value. Those Offers are more likely aimed at the big spenders. It IS about whether they monetize or not because there's no such thing as too much. They don't owe amends for monetizing to the people who don't or barely spend. They're a business. So they're going to make their money in whatever way works, and the only expectation on people to buy it all is the one they place on themselves.

Your point still stands though...

They've helped a lot, but more is needed.
Because I think that guy with 20 R4s finished in the same tier as Nick136.
I think 8 or 10 more exclusive nukes/defenders might do the trick.
