25% tc55 selector for top alliances...... really? It’s like Kabam pays no mind to how much the players spend to rank that high. Like hey spend over $2-3k per member for a total of $60k-90k per alliance and here’s a trash champ and only 25% of a t5cc that you want.... really Kabam?? Like 2020 wasn’t the worst year already smh. Cost you guys nothing to produce better rewards yet you make millions from the trash in game. Be nice! It’s been a horrible year more so for many of us.

They literally gave a t5cc selector to the top 30 in solo ranked rewards as well as a 6 star Thanos and multiple 6 stars and rank up materials.

I don't have any sympathy for the people spending to the top of this event, because they need no sympathy and would laugh at any attempt to give them sympathy. Every single one of them knows what they are doing and what they are getting, and doing it with eyes wide open. I don't pity the people spending thousands to buy their way to the top of the gifting event any more than I pity the people spending millions of dollars to buy their way to a really big boat.

This isn’t a mandatory event... I don’t hav $85k to throw at a mobile video game so I won’t... doesn’t mean I’ll say “unfair”. Someone wants to take the risk and the waste of money to leak away $85k that’s on them. I won’t lose a bit of sleep over it.

It’s called the class divide. Most of the people who are going to be in the top 100 are comfortably millionaires or successful Youtubers for whom the spend is tax deductible and will contribute to their own income. There’ll be the odd person who get in over their head but sadly there’s always people who get excited.

It’s a blind auction, plain and simple. Most of us can’t compete and to think otherwise could put you in potentially dangerous territory.

I’d like to preface this comment by stating that I’m only playing Devil’s advocate. For all those that are coming down on people who are upset about the very embarrassing rewards for this gifting event I’d like to point out that kabam and every other digital platform uses surveillance capitalism and data mining that focuses on exploitation and manipulation of its users for financial gain. If you think this is nonsense look up the course at Stanford university called neuroeconomics. These companies prey on our base brain with incentive salience.

I'd like to point out for all the ten minute wikipedia experts out there that the term "surveillance capitalism" was coined specifically to describe the situation where a company, say Facebook, datamines the interactions of their users in specific ways that allow them to take that behavioral information and either use it for sophisticated cross sell or sell that information to other companies who could use that behavioral data to target them in various commercial ways.

Saying "Kabam and every other digital platform uses surveillance capitalism" completely misunderstands what that even is. I'm guessing every single person that has posted something like this on the forums only knows "surveillance capitalism" to be "evil thing that big companies do that I don't understand." Kabam doesn't do anything you could describe as "surveillance capitalism" because a) they don't sell player behavior information (this is described in their terms of service, and doing so without informing the playerbase would be a violation of EU information protection laws) and b) when was the last time you saw an ad for something *outside* of MCOC within the game?

Neuroeconomics has nothing directly to do with any of this. Neuroeconomics is the study of replacing the rational actor models of economic theory with biological imperative models that attempt to predict economic choices by reducing them to questions of biologically based cognition. In other words, economies are run by people, and people are run by blobs of meat designed to hide in trees and hit things with sticks, and this sometimes causes them to act in a different way than you'd expect if they were logical robots.

FYI, "these companies prey on our base brain with incentive salience" is a gigantic tip off that you read this on wikipedia or some other summary article on Google. I've never heard anyone use the phrase "incentive salience" outside of an academic discussion, and in such a discussion no one would say that. They would say "these companies prey on our base brain by hijacking incentive salience association mechanisms." And only to sound smart at the bar.

It may be a university course, but doesn't mean it applies to this situation or has anything to do with it.
