Kabam is stretching the longevity of 7* for the greater good, with more time players can build a roster of 7* that will still be relevant and 6* can be used for longer in the absence of 8*
When 8* are here, 6* will be like 5*, obselete
We all know the loop, we can envision getting 8* Groot out of a crystal LOL

I'm training my hit monkey to play on my behalf, hope it works LOL
I have a backup in case the hit monkey go on strike
With that out of the way, I've already seen this happen with 5*-7*, so really won't be anything new. The only thing is kabam did handle 7* release a lot better than 6* release, so I expect they'll do good again at the eventuality of 8*s being released.
The time will come for 6R5As to become obsolete, but that's not imminent just yet.
Heck, look at all the random top-tier rewards Kabam puts out; a lot of the stuff is for awakening, R5-ing, and ascending 6s. Now, you can say, those rewards are outdated and Kabam needs to change them, but the fact that Kabam hasn't gotten rid of them should give us some insight into the timeline for the demise of 6R5As. It is not quite as short as a lot of people assume it to be.
Editing to add: I just looked at the new Sigil store prices, and a 7 crystal will cost 260 credits, whereas 200 T2 Primordial Dust will cost 800 credits. If you think Kabam is brushing 6R5As aside, you're kidding yourself.
I don't have to chase the whales, I just need to stay ahead of "you"

Let’s hope they think of new ways to advance the gane.
For a new player who starts playing this game and sees 7* champions, it is different from older players who started the game with 4* as the highest and gone thru the intro of 5* 6* 7*
Play for today, rank up your 7s and your 6s as necessary or as you wish.
I think some of the "6s are dead crowd" either exaggerates their own decks to pretend to be elite or they are trying to justify their early adopter investments by dismissing the continued viability of 6s as a threatening reality. (Threatening in the sense that maybe it wasn't necessary to spend all that money to get the 7s ASAP because the 6s are still viable and part of Kabam's plans for the game).
Technically, there's one alternative, but no one likes it and it usually fails across longer stretches of time. Instead of introducing new rarities to keep the chase fresh, the devs can simply decide to make all 2026 champs unambiguously better in all respects than all previous ones, and then again in 2029, and so on. This would be introducing a new rarity every three years embedded within the same rarity number, but having the same effect. This technically works, but it is so much worse than introducing new rarities that there's zero chance the developers entertain that option.
Without this fundamental requirement, the devs could just make 7* champs have 200 ranks and call it a day for the next hundred years. The reason why rarities don't have tons and tons of ranks is because the devs know they won't be able to use them all before being required to introduce a new rarity. Rarity is not just about giving us stronger champs. It is about managing the long term chase that powers the game's existence.
