I don't mean to sound judgmental for people getting their hopes up. That's a normal reaction. Most of us have that. We hear big announcement, and our minds go places. I just don't attach myself to any possibility that comes in my mind. That way when things are revealed, I'm not upset. The thing about surprises is that they can be anything.
So the announcement is that people who funnel money to Kabam get to have a virtual measuring stick competition. Cool.
Thanks for once again showing your complete and total disconnect from your player base.
Here we thought maybe some cool new content, or a game mode, or maybe a restructured rewards system (like the horribly outdated solo crystals), but instead we get this...
Hell yeah, select the ultimate, all-OP summoner out of a few hundreds of people....while the other thousands and thousands who can't attend these kinds of event will be forgotten💪💪
Look I have no problem with a tournament I think its a cool idea & will be watching what I do have a problem with is how the players were selected, I mean its mostly content creators involved with the program or others that have been around for some time.
If you want to do a massive tournament I would've done this:
Make the content available to ALL summoners that are cavalier to make sure the skill level is at an end game level with for a specified time limit say a week or 2.
The trick will be to have specific attackers for the event gifted to those while in the event to avoid those that dont have specific champions being at a disadvantage, these champs would obviously be removed when you exit the quest.
After the 2 weeks you select the top 27 Summoners & proceed as planned a bonus would be to fly the final 27 to Comic Con to compete! (comon you guys have more than enough money to make this happen) at least this then involves the community directly & will create incredible hype I for one would be super stoked to compete to have the opportunity to go to comic con!
I'm in south africa so the possibility of going for me in a personal capacity is extremely remote this would be my one shot & likely thousands more the hype would be incredible.
I think people are too caught up on rewards. It seems like every event, offer or issue / bug in the game must have some big rewards to satisfy the discontented. Personally, I think fun gameplay is the key, if kabam could get duels sorted so we can actually play each other in live duels. That would be great. People would freak out and the game would have a new dimension, if that was showcased in this tournament, everyone would want to watch. I'll still watch some but, I'm hoping there's something new they're showcasing.
People in my ally were anticipating LoL 2.0 or another game mode type or even another Variant. All disappointed by this 'big' news. @Kabam Miike maybe don't hype up something so much when It will only effect a handful of people.
Besides crystal openings I honestly don't watch none of those MCOC YouTubers. I guess that's y'all thing, sit for hours watching them do dungeons or arena - but I actually have a life.
I honestly don't see very many people (outside of Kabam or those participating) really caring about this at all.
I'm sure it's exciting for the participants though.
While it may not be for everyone, a lot of people all around the world tuned in to see the semi-finals and finals of the NYCC Tournament last year.
Although you may not be tuning in, others might, and might really enjoy the idea of watching other parts of their Community compete in the first Tournament for a game that they enjoy!
I won’t be tuning in that’s for sure. I only watched last year to see how our “English Friend” did. I’m sure some will but I hope the ramifications of these poor decisions hit hard.
Do as you want. I expressed my thoughts. It's engaging. While I can understand that people want to be able to participate in something, I don't personally need something in it for me to enjoy it.
Someone who gets it. I agree that it kinda sucks that the big announcement wasn’t something that everybody could participate in but jeez guys. It hasn’t happened yet. Who knows what will happen? But also at the same time @GroundedWisdom is right. Not everything as to be inclusive to be enjoyable
Ok then tell me why I should care. Content creators are just marketing tools who make money from a third party platform. I don’t care about marketing. I don’t care about anybody getting free advertising. There is literally no benefit to anyone not directly involved.
Tell me, are you a Sports Fan?
Interesting how you once again show your double standards. A few weeks ago when we discussed about whether the Black Order should have the villain tag, I brought up Mister Sinister as a comparisation and you were crying "ThAt HAs nOtHIng tO dO WiTH tHE TopiC". Now you bring up something that has nothing to do with the topic. This announcement is a big disappointment, Kabam was creating a hype that should affect everyone who plays the game, but the actual announcement only affects a very small amount of these people, not too hard to understand.
I came up with a metaphor that mirrors my point. Pretty good one, actually. In that discussion, you kept insisting that the Black Order must be Tagged as Villains, and Sinister was somehow misrepresented. What you still don't get is they make the Tags. Along with Marvel. Not us. If you're going to talk to me about double-standards on being off-topic, you might not want to carry discussions over from other Threads. They didn't say anything of the sort. They said there was a big announcement.

Yes and no Fun content is key without it people wouldn’t play the game but if there are horrible rewards a lot of the time it can be frustrating especially when your trying to progress through the game
The issue I have will this is that it affects a small portion of the community. When you consider how many play and the number that will watch/participate I can’t help but to think it’s a waste of resources that could have been used to improve the game. Either more content, reworking champs or fixing numerous bugs. Instead time and money was spent of something that 90% of the player base will never see.
are we supposed to be excited about this? Who cares?? Bunch of youtubers are gonna play mcoc wow big deal. you guys are so out of touch with the playerbase
@Kabam Miike can you confirm wether or not this is the “big announcement” we were promised, or is there something a little bit... less underwhelming in store?
Some might find this underwhelming, but others definitely do not.
This is the first big tournament that we've been a part of, with some of our community's favourite Content Creators and some of our most experienced and accomplished players taking the stage to Compete to prove that they are the best!
Hi Miike
Is there still going to be a separate tournament at NYCC with the wheel and all? I've been to the last two and I'm goign this year so that would be great if you still had that competition or at least the wheel
There's a little bit of bad info getting tossed around here. It's not all content creators/youtubers. Yeah, a lot are. I'd imagine that would be bc of being able to trust them not to flip out and act stupid on a livestream maybe. But I'm not running it so idk.
I'm that first name on the list, I have one video on YouTube. It's the Lil Steve one. Yeah, it's silly but it makes me laugh. I also have been helping the community in various ways for years and now run Concierge. I don't make money for any of it (literally zero), I just try to help. I actually spend money to help lol. Not to mention the ridiculous amount of hours spent on things... For others.
My grouping has two other people that spend countless hours helping the community as well. One helps run reddit and tries to keep it working as a helpful tool for players, giving all the most up to date info and convos.. Along with organizing and managing various popular streamers' streams. This one does a myriad of other things for players as well... But most of that goes unknown and is thankless.
The other is actively building amazing tools that players can use for free to get information they don't get from other places. Idk if the site this one built recently gets them ad revenue or not, but I hope it does bc the site is amazing. And this person has also been helping players (with no benefit to himself) for years.
I could go through the whole list pointing out who's not a content creator/youtuber and describing the good things they do, but some of those people like working from the background and not being publicized. But their efforts to help ALL PLAYERS are not diminished by their want to remain more private.
That's not to say I don't get the overall sentiment being thrown around in this thread. I'm 99% sure I've said the same things in the past. "This doesn't effect me" or "I don't really care about this". I get it. But I'm also extremely excited about the fact that Marvel is involved and a ton of GOOD, SELFLESS people are involved as well. Neither Kabam nor Marvel had to this... And yes, it's marketing. What do you expect from companies? Marvel taking a stronger interest in MCOC and/or Kabam working hard to create things with Marvel... Those are both great things for all players in the long run. Yeah, it maybe doesn't mean that every player gets something for this particular event, but maybe it builds towards more events. Who knows?
But if you don't care about this thing, nbd. I just don't see that as a reason to damn it or act like it's some terrible thing. It's def not a reason to **** on the people involved when you obv don't know who they all are or what they've done for everyone. Obviously, I'm insanely excited and thankful for it... But I think I'm more excited that some really good people are involved. Would I feel the same if I wasn't involved? Definitely. I'm super proud for so many of these players. It's going to be awesome to see them play and be nervous as hell and get to check out the Marvel building.
I guess that maybe this is mostly about the announcement? I could see where people could expect something different/something more involving their own accounts... and feel raw about it. But none of us knows (despite what Kabam may say) what else is to come. In reality, it IS a huge announcement because of Marvel's involvement. And the more actively involved they are, the more possibilities for everyone. Just my take tho.
Either way, I focus on the fact that awesome people are involved and that Kabam is making moves to up their involvement w players. That's really cool. It's not a bad thing to actually be happy for people and for good things from time to time lmao.
The content creators also help many of us clear content and learn to player better. We all have our own preferences on who we watch or like... And some of us don't watch any at all. Regardless, most of the YouTube folks are trying to help players in one way or another. Yeah, there are many clickbait-y type yters out there as well lol. But that's not the point.
Just didn't wanna seem like i was leaving them out lmao. There are a ton of good yters out there and involved in this thing.
I was actually just about to post how I think most of the ”content” creators get unfairly treated but this evens it out. I’m glad to see they are finally getting their fair shake.
what about the ones who weren't invited but i'm not bitter at all.............
Dang man, I would’ve love loved to see some crazy Morningstar gameplay at the tournament.
@chunkyb I don't think anyone denies there are some great people involved with this, and sure I think it'll be fun to watch. But my big complaint with it is that it will only include YouTubers, or players in the very top alliances. Summoners have wanted a tournament for years and it's unfortunate that Kabam can't do more to involve the "normal" summoners who perhaps have as much or even more skill in the game, but can't qualify because they aren't content creators or players in the top alliances. I think a lot of the disappointment here has been interpreted as dislike for the content creators and top alliances when it really isn't.

I feel ya. It's a valid mindset as well. I think Kabam tends to move slowly on a lot of things bc they're cautious. Obv Idk for sure, but it's the feeling i get.
They're always talking here about watching the data and adjusting from there. Usually that pertains directly to AQ/AW or champion changes. I've always believed when they do stuff like this little tournament.. They probably watch the data and feedback in the same way.
You and I are a lot alike as far as enjoying the challenging stuff. You've been calling for some sort of tourney for a long time. I've run several of them on Line. I've also tried to push AW towards a tournament style. Maybe we can leverage this thing into more widespread events? But I'd imagine if the overwhelming data is ppl crapping on it or complaining about no rewards in their acct... It might be more difficult lmao
Some people in this thread love to farm disagrees eh? As someone who watches almost every vid from top CCs like seatin and brian I have to say I am disappointed. I would still tune in to watch but the way this was advertised is soo misleading. Also I kinda wished that the tournament was open to more players, even have a preliminary round like have a timed quest and top 500 moves on and then continue with the tournament. Wouldve been more exciting and engaging.

I remember way back when you suggested I join your challenges on Line. I was actually going to but that was a period in time when I wasn't playing as much. I'm assuming you don't do them anymore due to the lack of the gifting badge?
Anyways, back on topic, yes I'd be a huge proponent of bringing a tournament like this to at least a much wider portion of the community, but ideally the whole community. I would love the idea of having a community wide tournament, and also streaming the tournament with content creators. I think both would be possible and you would please a whole lot more of the community. Leaving people out is never a good thing.
Ultimately I think all the dislike comes down to one thing. The epicness of MCoC tournament is so great, that being left out REALLY sucks. If it was streamed AND regular summoners were able to participate I think the reaction would have been a whole lot different. The reaction wasn't towards the content creators, it was towards being left out.

I suppose there IS something that could be proposed. Not sure how people would feel about it. They could run it in-game after the Tourney ran. "Beat the Winner" kind of deal. In-game prize for best performance. People could run the challenges and they could award a version of the Champ announced to the Winner. Personally I don't care, I'm a fan of the Tournament. I'm just throwing out an idea for your point of people wanting to participate.

Don't get me wrong here, I think the tournament will be cool and fun to watch, but many summoners would also love to be included on this and should be given the chance to participate in game even if they can't go to wherever this is being held. It would be cool to bring the challenges that these people faced to the game afterwards just to see how others can do and at least feel somewhat involved in the tourny.
I'd personally love for the chance to just try the challenges even if I didn't get any rewards out of the deal. That said, it would be kinda cool if they had a set reward bracket and depending on how well you did compared to the winner you'd get rewarded.
I think there's a lot of really cool things they could do to include players. Idk if they're working on them or not tbh. I've seen a lot of people with great ideas about it here and on Line/reddit. I hope they have plans already in the works... And i hope they check out some of the various ideas people have thrown out there. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
They hold cards close to their chest tho. That can be very frustrating to us as players, but i also understand why haha.
And @Werewrym, maybe we can put our heads together to come up with some viable ideas for some fun stuff. My events have definitely stopped bc of various things. Being busy, other rooms stealing them, and gifting. But it's always fun to brainstorm and maybe we come up with something kabam likes. Who knows? I've seen a huge uptick in them having open ears over the past year.
@chunkyb I don't think anyone denies there are some great people involved with this, and sure I think it'll be fun to watch. But my big complaint with it is that it will only include YouTubers, or players in the very top alliances.
Im not a youtuber or in a Top Ally. Im a 'Normal' player. I totally expected to hated upon and it has bothered me for a while on what to expect but Im excited to go and hoped the community would be more supportive

Which still, in no way, shape or form, classifies this as a "big announcement" for something that literally 95% of the player base really couldn't care less about. Most players don't watch live streams of games. Most don't care about those who already curry favor getting more of a chance to do so. The "big announcement" is a total did that does nothing to address concerns players have, it was just a chance to basically puff their chest while catering to those who already are steps ahead.
I get it, this doesn't harm anyone, but it's awfully stupid and tone-deaf.

I get it, this doesn't harm anyone, but it's awfully stupid and tone-deaf.
