I don’t necessarily care about getting the featured 5 or 6*s I never score that high anyway but what I care about is being able to get units and reach all the milestones.
For people in your position, the optimal mindset will likely have to change. It is too early to know how this will all shake out yet until we see a few cycles and get a better idea where the rank reward cutoffs end up, but the largest benefit for intermediate grinders with a decent number of 5* and 6* champs could be to shoot for the 11-30% (or higher) rank reward in both 4/5/6 arenas. Those contain 250 6* shards, which might be more reachable now than in the previous 5* featured arena (which had 6* shards in much higher rank tiers only).
If I was in your position today, I would probably be shifting my effort from trying to grind optimally for units, to trying to find the optimal strategy for grinding shards, in an effort to expand roster. In fact, even I am considering whether shooting for units over shards makes sense in the new arena configuration, and I do have the roster to sweep the milestones if I choose. But the new arenas aren't really built for that necessarily being the best long term strategy. It depends on how high the 1-5% rank gets.
The shards are and have always been a nice bonus. Telling people they should change their mindset because this is the new normal complete ignores the fact that this will have a massive impact on the ftp unit economy, which will further complicate decisions such as whether I ever buy the monthly cavalier quest offer, and what the July 4th deals have to mean to me in order to convince me to part with my even more precious units, because my stock will not replenish itself so quickly.
So in short, I interpret your argument as "we need a new mindset in grinding goals" to which I respond "why tho?"
Because if your goal is to get the best possible result for your effort, you have to play the hand you're dealt. You can advocate for changes all you want, but in the meantime you still have to play the game that exists.

The goal in arena is units or the featured champ. That’s what it is for most people, and changing that is not something I want, and I’m sure it’s not something most people want.

A simple solution would be to bring back the 3* and 4* Basics and run the current setup alongside it.
Or just simply cut all milestones to 50% in new arenas. It’s not that hard to figure out a solution.
Well no, that's counterintuitive to what the new Arenas are. A simpler solution would be to allow people to Grind for a new 3*, as well as a Basic 4*, and keep the new Arenas as-is. That would provide an opportunity for farming as well, and the new Arenas would still be as competitive.

Thinking they were just going to add more units and bc milestones on top of what was already there is about as naive as it gets
If you look at the first page, you can see I had this concern immediately when they announced it, so I'm not being reactionary or naive here. But that doesn't make it ok. There's no chance they add easy arenas for grindable units. I still think the new arena should be tweaked in some way to make the units comparatively available relative to the old grind
I'm not disagreeing with any of this. I've been against a 6* arena in general every single time they get brought up. I couldn't see any way they get realistically added and benefit anyone outside a group of people that doesn't really need the benefit to begin with.

Thinking that all the players will be able to grind the units and the milestones in all the arenas if all the previous arenas existed alongside the new ones is about as naive as it gets.

Things are never balanced against what all players are going to do. They get balanced against what is available to do. If I chose to grind arena I could easily hit the additional milestones on top of the old ones, I'd just never spend that much time in arena personally. Someone would though which is why the option won't be given.

Who said you're supposed to Grind them all? The idea is to have some that are farmable. Not to get every Milestone in every Arena.
When they say quality of life improvement will come to arenas, I didnt believe them. But now as a f2p player I think they were right, quitting the game is going to be a big quality of life improvement.
I appreciate the fact kabam wants to give end-game players the opportunity to add 5 and 6 star champs. But that’s 2 percent of the player base at best. The other 98 percent of us are much worse off after this update
New Arenas make 3* and 4* champs worthless.. They used to be a source for quick grind in 3* and 4* arenas for units.. as cooldown timer is 2hrs.. Now that is screwed.. No way to get that amount of units quickly now..

I mean, sure. But then we're having two separate discussions at each other. I agree, in the meantime work on maximizing shards if you are limited on time, but can we also not pretend like Kabam overlooked this issue as if they didn't realize a large base of players turn to arena as the only steady source of units?
I wouldn't say they overlooked it. I would say they greatly underestimated the problematic nature of the changes. It is something I can assure you they are very much aware of now.

It kind of seems like a recurring theme. It seems like Kabam releases a lot of content and then has to redo it because they "missed the mark." It's cool that they take into account player feedback and actually change the content, but I have to wonder what they were thinking while putting together the original content.
The one and only positive I can say about this change is the 4* feature is now motivationally reachable, instead of putting up a guess score and getting no champ in return.
My opinion is the ONLY way to really motivate players to grind hard is to have a regularly updated arena leaderboard. So as the event is live people can see where they are, what they are working towards in terms of the competition, and most importantly to show transparency of who is finishing where. I mean seriously, Kabam could run these arenas and not say anyone has finished in the top champ places. Who are we to argue, who actually sees the leaderboards?!
Featured 3* used to be 640K points. I could rattle that off with my preferred roster of 3* in less than 2 hours.
Now I have to grind 6.5MM points to get that same Featured 3*? Even with 6*s (of which I only have 3) and 5*s, I’m looking at probably six hours of grinding. I have a life; wife, two teen daughters, full-time professional job, elderly parents, etc. I don’t remotely have the time or energy to put in that kind of time.
On the Basic, sure it’s lower milestones, but removing the PHC shards means I’ll dupe fewer champs, yielding less ISO, making progression far harder than it was before.
My alliance is losing its collective mind over this. We’re all on newer or second accounts, most of us are a little older, and these changes screw us all over big time.
This change benefits the veteran players under the guise of “QOL”, but it cuts out a wide group of us mid-level players who may have just gotten Uncollected or aren’t able to play in every free moment of the day.
And let’s talk about the elephant in the room while we’re at it.
The primary thing that Kabam monetizes is units. If they reduce the amount of free units that can be earned in the arenas (either from milestones or through battle chips), it will force players who need energy refills, revives, etc., to have to spend REAL WORLD MONEY on the game.
Hence, why the arenas were slanted to favor the whales and people who already are spending cash on the game. Keep those folks fed, fat, and happy while systematically squeezing the FTP players to the point they have to spend cash or risk not progressing.
I like getting the 3 star feature from milestone rewards. It’s a small thing, but fun, and it was easy in previous arena. But for 6.25M in new arena? Hahaha. That’s basically causing me not to even try. Not even going to waste my time.

It’s not that hard to figure out a solution.
But now, idk,, it's useless. You should have kept the 3 star and 4 star arenas.
So, Just bring back the arena for 3 star and 4 stars
With 2hrs cooldown easy to get 270 units..
Now to get 200 units... get 16M score.
Also Kabaam: We're going to make it 3 times harder to earn free units!

FYI, I won all 3, but that's NOT the point...
