If Kabam never intended the Crit rate for Gambit relic to be what ended up in the game, it’s not a bug. That a screw up/mistake/error. It’s not an unintended interaction caused by some part of the game, someone has put the wrong numbers in. Just like the wrong champion was put on the Titan Pool as a choice.
When anything new is added to the game there should be a checklist that looks at, is the thing being added, doing what it should be doing.
It looks like Gambit wasn’t released as the developers had intended and months later the mistake has been discovered, which should have been part of testing. This should have been communicated before any changes were made.
But the wider point that Dr Zola has made, there are too many bugs in the game that get through, but there’s also to many of these error/mistakes that mean champions abilities get reduced/nerfed/changed to there ‘intended’ levels when they should have never been put out wrongly in the first place, or discovered within at most a day of being live.
All this developer time is being freed up through reducing the number lanes on Act Content and number of nodes changes in BG, hopefully there will be more time to check are the things being released doing what they are supposed to do, and not wait 3-6 months for player data feedback to realise things are wrong.
Do I believe the numbers that had been in the game for a while were unintended? Sure.
Do I think it’s fair for them to change them? Sure.
Do I think they should have changed them during the first update after they were identified and that they should have made a clear announcement about needing to reduce the values? Absolutely.
And that’s the bigger problem. We all know bugs are getting found and fixed all the time but when they just lower values out of nowhere and don’t even mention it in the change log I think some frustration from the players is justified.
There's thousands of threads in the bugs section and many are the same problems and many are answered by the community. The mods have commented many times that even though there's no comment from a mod, the threads are passed along.
But the community does themselves a disservice by rarely ever giving appropriate details needed too. Half the bug threads don't have the info needed to pass along. A mod will comment and then the OP never responds.
You know how many "why is spiderman evading Venom" threads there are? Do all of those need to be passed a long to the team?
However, the primary purpose of the Forum is for us to discuss the game. Not to get answers. They've been quite upfront about the fact that not all Threads will get a response from Moderation.
I'm not saying there aren't issues. That doesn't mean everything brought up will have a confirmation either way. Any idea how many issues they deal with in a month? Yes, it's their job. They're also human. They do the best they can.
I'm here to explain a little about what happened with the Gambit Relic and offer apologies on behalf of the team:
Last week, the game team identified the Gambit Relic was not operating as intended. They hustled to implement a fix, as soon as possible, and, as a result, ventured outside our regular cadence for providing in-game fixes. As you've seen, these changes went live in-game before we could provide the appropriate communications to Summoners for the incoming changes.
Typically, our operational pipeline includes first making Summoners aware of the issue via our Bug Board. Then, changes usually go live with new game builds and information is included in the patch notes. Because these changes were pushed live mid-build, we understand the change was particularly confusing and jarring for Summoners. The situation was exacerbated by having the changes go live on a Friday afternoon, resulting in further-delaying these communications.
Those who frequent the forums and are part of these conversations know we have taken a stance on: "we don't make silent nerfs" As a result of the above events, we unintentionally did not inform Summoners prior to making changes. We apologize for the way this situation was handled.
Here is the list of issues as they were described internally:
- The Gambit relic's Ability 2 Socket is granting more Crit Rating than intended. This ability should only bump the Crit Rating up to the listed amount, currently it is granting that amount on top of the player's current Crit Rating (on Physical Mutant Special Attack Hits)
- On the Gambit Relic's Info Page, Ability 2 is displaying more Crit Rating than it should.
- This Ability 2 isn't scaling with the relic's rarity.
The Crit tuning values were intended be as follows:4-Star: 800
5-Star: 1600
6-Star: 2400
The relic has been brought in line with how it was intended to operate, the webpage information has been updated.
Hopefully this clarifies the situation for you all. Again, we apologize for leaving you in the dark on this matter, it was not intended.
My question is, why was this rushed so fast? No notice of a hot fix, no “we will do it next update”, nothing like that.
Instead it’s one week from noticing the problem to fixing with no notice, or thought to let us know.
Why is learning to communicate to the player-base such an ongoing issue for years with this game? Whether it’s the intentional or not, it feels really shady.
1) We messed up the Gambit relic with the wrong crit values.
2) We also sold relic rankup packages while we were working to correct the error in 1) above, and some of you may have bought them to use on your Gambit relic.
3) To make matters worse, the corrected relic values went live without letting any of our community know.
4) We apologize for our mistakes. This isn’t the way we aspire to run our game. Please accept a package of [x] as an apology.
Dr. Zola
