Initially this doesn’t sound like a mechanic I’d personally want. Wait and see. But if we can’t avoid omege reds and mephisto type passive damage then this will be highly annoying.
Also, I'm definitely interested, but have several thoughts: 1. Will the attacker and defender both be rooted, or just the attacker? 2. This will make it more difficult to deal with special attacks since most of the time if you play well you can just dodge back far enough that you don't have to perfectly dodge each hit of at least the most complicated ones. 3. I agree with Cat Murdock, champions with abilities related to their distance make this seem like a difficult idea, and I would add to the list Blade's ability to gain power while in close proximity to a bleeding opponent. 4. Will this essentially make playing every character similar to playing Quake in the corner?
Just some thoughts, but I am genuinely interested to see how this works in game and excited for a new game mode. Thanks Kabam!
I will wait until I try it for an accurate and informed opinion...but I do have big worries about how it will be used and what combination of nodes will be with it. My frustration with this game is at an all time high this year, so if it's bugged or added with some BS node combo like long distance, the rage quitting could increase. Which is probably not something they want that close to Cyber Monday. But, we will see.
Is this supposed to be the next big thing? newest hot topic new global called Root. but not better rewards from side event ??? im puzzled. and why not rewards (furry buff or prowess buff) from performing the actions correctly while rooted???
You have great opportunity to make the game drastically different. You can easily make the game much better or much wodse Kabam, please do really handle it well and...good luck
As for myself, I am really curious about it and wanna give it my honest try.
I would guess this will take the initial form of being something beneficial. Like while rooted the attacker gains some sort of attack bonus and it will be against opponents who are easy to evade like Hulk. The community will love it.
However, in a few months I think that will evolve into nodes that say, you can only do damage while rooted, or the attacker suffers degeneration while not rooted, vs say Omega Red.
I’m very skeptical. With all the potential fun mechanics out there I don’t see how this was an option.
But I’m opened minded with a skeptical eye towards what this will morph into in the future.
Also depending on how widespread rooting will be implemented it has the chance to nerf the hell out of Sparky, Ronin and Red Guardian.
Will Ghost still be able to phase while ROOT is active? I dash back, but stay in place, and she phase. I’m intrigued, but not completely sure of this mechanic.
I'm riveted to see how this new mechanic takes hold in the game. The game can't remain motionless, so we're seeing the core birthplace of a new mechanic, and hopefully from its origin it can establish itself and become an entrenched part of the foundation of the game.
So as it stands when attacking a defender your champion follows said defender as they are knocked backwards with strikes. This mechanic would nullify that I’m guessing. So you would only really be able to strike the defender once because you can’t move laterally to follow them to continue your combo. How would this work with specials that have more than one strike...outside of the sp3? If your champion is locked into position and can’t continue to move then only the first strike would make contact? Also, how would this affect champions such as cmm whose sp2 is ranged and while in binary it is unblockable but stuns the defender, the champion would be rooted in place and therefore unable to take advantage of the mechanic from the guaranteed stun. Sounds like a lot of Perry and heavy. Depending on how long the root lasts and if it is removed by performing certain actions as well. Idk it is what it is I guess.would be nice to actually get some more info before hand. I certainly welcome changes that make this game more fun to play but so far this doesn’t sound like one of them.
Can we still dash attack or does this mean we have to parry and counter? How will this affect intercepting? How does this interact with mechanics that involve distance? Honestly, I’m not stoked. This seems over complicated with no real benefit

Can we get some examples of this in action?
Is this expected to allow an attacker to dex and retaliate with a heavy attack?
Also, typo.. should be there'll or to avoid weird contractions: there will
