You were essentially taking advantage of the system and it's Kabam's fault... You knew this wasn't their intention and there was always the chance they'd fix it

This would be the equivalent of them removing Quake’s evade ability. Quake and shake was never intended. But was left alone years ago because it wasn’t game breaking, took a lot of work to benefit from, and players enjoyed it.

I know I know… it was a gamble, but seeing 40,000 units getting thrown to the bin just hurts so much… I knew this was coming. Hopefully I’m able to “gift” those units somehow to make the pain hurt a little less….

Personally I think this is bittersweet. Even though this is the right thing to do, and I’m absolutely going to save money from this. There was something really cool about throwing units at my friends and acquaintances in the game. And seeing them get all happy about it.

this sounds like a terrible move, likely you wont care about the negative units on that account, but this kind of "workaround" is part of the reason the gifting event was abused.

Do the math. You'll have items expiring if you try to gift 40,000 units of consumables. Perhaps your forgetting, but there is a limit on the items you can hold. You can't even get close to 40,000 units worth of items without going into the stash

Not quite, they have always said that gifting to yourself wasn’t the way they wanted the event to be played, and didn’t think it was in the spirit of gifting.
Plus, Kabam have said in the post that they estimated 850,000 crystals were fraudulently gifted. They’re clearly seeing this differently to a champion being played in an unexpected way.
I think it's for the best, every year we have a lot of controversies about scammers and etc and meanwhile a lot of people do enjoy the tematic of give someone a gift in a christmas spirit (including me), the company gets a lot of hate here on the forums, youtube and that push a lot of players away cause they don't want so spend their money on a game to compete with players that are scamming....i'm up for it and hope kabam comes up with a good tematic since gifting won't be around anymore

It's the same thing, only instead of gifting, you buy them for yourself. Kabam did the right thing, and that's the first I'm saying that in 3.5 years of playing this game.

They should have communicated such a thing MUCH earlier than 4 months away. I am more disgusted at how they handled the situation - as per usual where most of my disgust comes from.
Finally. Both the ridiculous levels some are trying to alt farm and all the shady business that comes with the event had gotten way out of hand. Good riddance.

2) a third crystal that can only be sent and received by people with a certain title (Cav+ or TB+?)
3) gifting between alliance mates only
4) making this announcement when people haven’t spent 8 months waiting for the next event
5) imposing balance caps where players can’t funnel more than X amount to another player or have a negative balance beyond Y-units.
